This Friday will be the last day for our student teacher, Miss Burke. We loved having Miss Burke and will miss her. What are some of your favorite things about Miss Burke? Take this time to say, "Goodbye" to her, and let her know what you'll miss most about her helping and learning in our classroom.

On March 17th, many people around the world celebrate St. Patrick's Day. This holiday was named after the patron saint of Ireland. What do you know about St. Patrick's Day? Does your family celebrate on this day? If so, tell me how.

We have had a very mild winter with hardly any snow at all! In fact, beginning tomorrow, the temperature is going to rise to near 60 degrees. I'm hearing rumors that the weekend temperatures may reach in the 70's!  Knowing this, I am hoping to do things that involve the outdoors. I may take a walk at Breakheart Reservation or Revere Beach. I may even wash my car in the driveway. What do you plan to do outdoors this weekend?

On Monday, public schools in Massachusetts were closed in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.  Last week, we read literature about Dr. King and Rosa Parks.  I admire both of these people for the way they peacefully stood up for fairness. As we discussed, Dr. King had a dream that all children would get along regardless of the color of their skin. Thinking about this, tell me what you dream of.

After a much needed break, I hope we are all ready to learn and get back into our daily routine. We have said, "Goodbye," to 2011, and welcomed 2012. Many people enter the new year with a resolution or commitment to a personal goal. My resolution for this new year is to practice good work habits every day. I plan to meet that goal by following a schedule, and checking my work to be sure it is my best. What is your New Year's resolution? How will you meet your goal?

We will be out of school for winter break. All of my children will be home, so I plan to use the time off to spend a lot of time with my family. I'd also like to catch up on some reading, and reorganize my basement! I also think it will be fun to take the train into Boston and do some sightseeing. What are some of the things you will be doing?

In A Letter to Santa Claus, Oliver realizes he never really wished for anything.  He decided that this year he would sent a letter to Santa and tell him what he wished for. What do you think about the things Oliver wished for?

We are back after a much needed holiday "break." I spent the time off enjoying my family and close friends. One tradition our family has is to drive around the area to see if any houses are lit up. We like to bring a mug of hot cocoa. This year I enjoyed mint flavored cocoa!  It was very tasty ~ both cool and warm at the same time! Tell me about any family traditions you might have. Or, you may tell me a good idea for starting a new family tradition.

Last week we read about, and discussed, the history of Thanksgiving. We learned about the Pilgrims' journey on the Mayflower, and how once they arrived, their Native American friends helped them to survive. Today we learned how Sarah Hale fought to have Thanksgiving Day declared a national holiday. Sarah, the pilgrims, and the Native Americans had much to be thankful for.  Thinking about this, tell me what you are thankful for.

Tomorrow is School Spirit Day! We will enjoy a B-B-Q lunch, fun activities, and cheer on a fifth grade kickball game against the teachers.  What do you think of School Spirit Day? How can you show your 'school spirit?'
