Mid-term grades are deceiving. My class is divided into three different grading areas: homework, test/quizzes, and journals. Each area carries roughly one-third of the total grade.
In quarter three, for example, we had only one quiz in before midterm. It was a small quiz. If a student scored poorly on the quiz it affects the grade greatly in parent portal due to weighting. However, it is not a true reflection of how the student is doing in class. The best thing to do is to look at the percentage for homework. We have had far more homework assignments and that grade is more of an indicator than the overall right now. Once we get more scores in the test/quizzes and journal categories, you will see grades start to shape up.
