The best way to see if a particular career is a good match for you is to do work based learning activities listed below.  Seek out opportunities like these with friends, family, relatives, neighbors, church members, etc.
    1.   Take courses at DHS that are related to your career interests. Mr. Hobson can put together a four year plan to help in this area.
    2.   Shadow someone in a career you have an interest.  You may shadow one time per year and it will not count as an absence.  See Mr. Hobson in student services to pick up a shadowing application.
    3.   Volunteer with a charitable organization or a company that has your career interest over a certain length of time.
    4.   Do a Career & Technical Education (CTE) internship and receive elective credit.
    5.   Find a parttime job in your career interest. Shadowing, volunteering, and interning can sometimes lead to parttime jobs.

Recently a former student a Davie High School, Billy Riddle, was recently highlighted by WXII in W/S because of him taking a year off from his college education and his football career at ASU to do a mission trip to Darfur.  Read about it on the WXII website _
You will have to cut and paste to your internet browser to see it.

I admire Billy for putting his passion to help his fellow man above college and athletics. It take much conviction and dedication to make such an important decision. He truly is a great role model for many of our young people in Davie County.

Shadowing is a great way for students to first be exposed to a particular career.  Students will "shadow" a career model for one day in the career they have an interest in observing. It does not count as an absence for that day.  Here is the procedure for shadowing:
    1.   Seniors and juniors can now pick up an application from Mr. Hobson in student services.
    2.   They should complete the application in its entirety and return to Mr. Hobson.
    3.   We ask that the student and parents try for 2 weeks to find someone in the field he or she wants to shadow.
    4.   If a career model cannot be found, we will try to locate one.

A career blog is a means of putting career information here to help students and parents in the career planning process. I will post thoughts and ideas throughout the year. You can make comments, add new ideas, and ask questions for others to help find answers.
