Mrs. Kimball's students have added instruments to three different Storybird stories written by Mrs. Behrend.  If you would like to create your own Storybird story inspired by beautiful artwork, head to this site and create a free account Click here for Storybird.  The students themselves movie composers creating their own score for each story.

Students in Mrs. Donaldson's class are playing an AABA song while reading music with 3 pitches (C, D, and E) and three different rhythms (ta, titi, rest).  Students added dynmics to show the 3 types of weather in our song and we added pictures to further illustrate the form of the song!  Enjoy!!

Miss Staib's students added a rhythm instrument orchestra to the story "Fire, Wind, and Water" and then added some drama with some ribbon actors.  Listen for the crescendo and decrescendo as the fire grows and then is extinguished!

This was our second selection for the RFACC (read below post for details), and it's a spiritual called "Wade in the Water."  This is a student and crowd favorite.  There's something about the minor melody that really speaks to people of all ages and races.  The kids performed this piece to the very best of their ability... total level 4 effort!  I'm so proud of you all for your energy, talent, integrity, and behavior.  You really represented our school, your families, and yourselves superbly!

This is a recording of Lake Myra's 4th and 5th grade chorus ROMP (Rockin' Otters with Musical Pipes) at the 2012 Raleigh Fine Arts Choral Celebration at Meymandi Hall on March 20th.  Our group loves singing in this beautiful professional theater and getting to hear what other choral groups in the county are singing.  The piece "Joyful, Joyful" is based on Beethoven's popular 9th Symphony which the 4th graders were lucky enough to hear the NC Symphony perform this year at their field trip.  See if you can hear the melody from that symphony when it happens.  We are actually doing some challenging harmony in this piece... listen for it!!

The following videos were made using SonicPics and Storybird, a free website that you should really check out on your own... it's really awesome for inspiring kids to write.  Students created the story in class with Mrs. Pittman, and I think it is a perfect story for the end of the year.  Each video has 4 students working together as readers and film score composers, adding just the right sounds to accompany their movie.

This is the last first grade class to complete our AABA project reading music notation.  Great job, Mrs. Donaldson's class - I especially like your dynamics.

The following videos were made with SonicPics and the online collaborative story maker StoryBird.  I wrote the storybirds you see, but the kids can set up their own account and get inspired to write by using amazing artwork.  Students added their own soundtrack with whatever instruments they chose.

Ms. Staib's Class is playing the same song as the classes below, but I've use different pictures to emphasize the AABA from of the song.  Students are reading music with C, D, and E with ta, titi, and quarter rest rhythms.
