All grade levels have completed the Mile Run for fitness testing.  Any students who have missed this can stay after school on
Tuesday , November 24th or arrange a time during study hall to make it up.

6th Graders have completed units on Field Hockey, Softball, and a day of soccer.  We are getting ready to start a Floor Hockey unit.

7th Graders have completed units on Capture the Flag-type games and Lacrosse.

8th Graders have participated in several different activities-  Speed-a-way, Field Hockey, Lacrosse, and Ultimate Frisbee.  They are starting their Create-a-game project.  This is a group project where they invent their own game and present it to the class.

All classes have finished a Fox and the Hound unit.  Sixth grade will be starting a field hockey unit today.  This unit will include one day of skill development and one day of game play.  Seventh grade classes will be interrupted  by NECAP testing.  When students do have classes, they will participate in a unit that will include multiple Capture the Flag-type games. Eighth grade will begin Ultimate Frisbee.

All three grade levels have played Big Base Kickball- a game they will play if I ever have a substitute.

8th grade is currently playing Speed-a-way.  This is a game that is a combination of several games- soccer, flag football, basketball, and water polo.

6th and 7th grade classes are preparing to play Fox and the Hound during their next class, provided that I receive forms from all of my students.  Students should most likely wear pants and bring bug spray as this game is played in the woods.

As of today, I will have seen all of the classes who will be attending Physical Education during the first semester.  Each student has been given a parent letter and a rules and expectation sheet.  The rules and expectations sheet must be signed by a parent and received by the child's second class to avoid receiving a grade of a zero.  Starting next week, all students will also need a change of clothes to receive credit for participating in class. I encourage you to use my Physical Education Schedule page to help you keep track of when each child has Physical Education.  You may also utilize the Parent Portal (staring mid-next week) to monitor each student's progress in class.

All students will be receiving progress reports in two weeks.  Please remember to check the Parent Portal for your child's current grade.

8th graders are completing a Create a Game unit.  Within small groups, the students are making up their own game and teaching it to their classmates.  This is a 3-day project.  The assignment and grading rubric are available on my Homework Assignments page.

6th and 7th graders are on their third and final day of Floor Hockey.  Each grade level spent a day working on skills and two days playing "Sideline Hockey". During Sideline Hockey, we have devoted much time to discussing game strategy.

All classes have reviewed the parts of the Cardiovascular System and which diseases you are more susceptible to if you have poor cardiovascular health.

All students have closed out grades for the first half of the year.  As of Monday, 2/2/09, all students have started over with a 100% grade point average.

I am trying to keep current with the snow days and make sure that the Physical Education Schedule is posted correctly on this website for those who are trying to keep track. If you notice any errors because I have forgotten to adjust it after a snow day, please email me right away!

All three classes are currently immersed in volleyball units.  Each class, our skills are getting better and the games are becoming more exciting!  We are playing the "old school" rules that many parents will remember (playing to 15, have to serve to score).  Most classes will be continuing with this unit until February vacation.

We finally seem to be back on a normal schedule with snow days and vacations behind us.  Grades are coming to a close- the final day is January 30th.  Soon after that, report cards will be issued.  As of February 2nd, all students start over with a 100% that they simply need to maintain throughout the remainder of the year.

Currently, all students are completing a volleyball unit.  8th graders are perfecting their game play while 6th and 7th graders are learning and improving their skills.  This unit will last until the beginning of February.

At this moment, about half of the students have participated in the mile run fitness test.  If your child missed this test, they will be asked to perform a make-up (most likely after school due to scheduling constraints).  It is important that all students participate in fitness testing so they can learn to self-evaluate their fitness levels.  In regards to the mile run, make-ups will be extremely important as students will be working on an assignment that they will need their mile run score to complete.  Depending on their grade level, students will be learning about cardiovascular health, heart rate, and how to develop a fitness plan.  If you would like more information on fitness testing, please visit:  http://www.fitnessgram.net/faqparents/#q4

All students will be receiving Quarter 1 progress reports today.  Unified Arts classes will not be graded on report cards until the 2nd quarter.  If you have questions regarding your child's grade, please set up a Parent Conference with me through the main office.

Starting today, 8th grade students should be returning the Cornell Note Taking assignment on their Physical Education packets. They are starting a one-week unit on Whiffleball.  6th grade classes are in the middle of a Pirate Ball unit.  7th grade classes have been completing a class of adventure-based activities.  They have played Psychic Handshake, Below the Knee Tag, Mirror Stretching, and Negotiation Square.

As we are winding down to report card time, all students have been given a Progress Report that needs to be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to Miss J.  Additionally, students who were in danger of failing (on 10/29) were given Failure Notices that also need to be signed and returned.

Again, I cannot reinforce the following strongly enough:
Students should leave a spare bag of clothing/sneakers in their locker so that they may have what they need to be prepared for Physical Education at all times.  It is a challenge to keep track of "what day it is" under this schedule.  However, I do make an effort to keep the rotation posted on this webpage under the P.E. Schedule page.

Students should be dressing for outdoor weather each and every class.  Winter hats and gloves are permitted.

Parents should be diligent about checking the Parent Portal to stay informed regarding their child's grades.  If you do not know how to access this, please see Mrs. Kivikoski in the main office.  If you do not have reliable Internet access, please call your child's teachers to make arrangements for written notifications.

All 8th grade classes have taken the muscle quiz and are preparing to receive a homework assignment as of the next rotation.  Each student will be given a packet on the activity of their choice (they had 30 to choose from).  The assignment will be to take Cornell Notes on the packet and return the packet and homework assignment by the following class.

All 6th grade classes are taking the muscle quiz and finishing up their batting unit.

All 7th grade classes are taking the muscle quiz and finishing up their territorial games unit.
