Thank you to all who came out to our 2nd annual Winter Literacy Night.  I think everyone had a great time enjoying pizza, hearing a story read by Mr. Hirsch and then visiting Mrs. Hannum's classroom and our classroom.  Students and parents made a stuffed snowman with Mrs. Hannum and Mrs. Suchana.  They were adorable!  Students and parents also listened to Snowmen at Night and created a Cinquain poem with Mrs. Wikander and I.

Our next Literacy night will be Math Literacy Night on April 24th.  Students will enjoy a show during the school day presented by Arithmetickles.  Later that night, all that sign up will join us for a night of math games.  Mark you calendars.

On Friday, Oct. 28th we enjoyed an afternoon of fun activities with our own pumpkins.  Each student had the opportunity to weigh, measure, float, and count ribs in various stations.  When all stations were complete, Mrs. Lake and Mrs. Radler skillfully carved our class pumpkin.  Thank you to all!!

Sorry but I am still working on learning how to manage Youtube.  I guess the last post with video was not done correctly.  I am trying again.  Here we go.

All of the first grade students are learning about habitats in science.  We completed an ocean habitat lesson last week.  This week we are working on a forest habitat and wetlands habitat.
They are really enjoying this science chapter and we are loving the results.
Below is a small video of your children working on the forest habitat.  Enjoy!

Yay!! Our new shirts arrived today.  The class and I were so excited when they arrived.  Our first event to wear the new shirts will be our class trip on Oct. 25th to Quiet Valley.

I hope to start posting flip camera videos to this blog soon.  I did shoot 2 videos of our recent animal helper visits. You can hopefully check them out soon on the Frankford Twp. webpage.

    • On Wednesday, the New Jersey State police K-9 unit brought 2 of their dogs for a visit.  They were a hit!
    • Today, we had a visit with a seeing eye puppy.  The students and staff learned a lot about how seeing eye puppies are trained to be ready to do their amazing work.

Thank you to all who attended our Back to School night last night.  I think we had a good class turnout and I hope that I was able to answer the questions you may have had about first grade.

You should have received the Math Resources book that we spoke of last night.  I do not need that back.  It is yours to use as needed.

You should also have received either a page or packet concerning your child's progress with the 40 kindergarten words.  If your child still needs extra practice, I hope you find the pack useful.  We do begin regular first grade reading words in one week so the more fluent they are with the review words, the easier it should be for them.

You will receive an exciting note tomorrow concerning first grade t shirts.  We are ordering t shirts next week.  Look for the note and I hope you can participate.  The kids loved them last year (we did too!).

    Have an awesome weekend!

Wow!  I cannot believe the first day has come and gone so quickly.  I had a wonderful time today meeting and getting to know your children.  I think it is a very special class and I cannot wait to really get started with our reading program in a few weeks.

We did not let the rain put a damper on our day.  Your children enjoyed their first day of PE with Mrs. Eckert and had recess inside today with Mrs. Pelt (one of the recess teachers).  We created our Time Capsule pages, started calendar journals, toured the school, went over class rules, learned about our BEE books, did a little math and a Weekly Reader.  I think we got a lot accomplished and I am ready for tomorrow (after a good nights sleep tonight).

I will post a new blog at the end of the week to let you know how the week went.  Thank you all for raising such polite children.  I will see them all tomorrow.

Hello parents and students!  I am currently busy getting our classroom ready for school this year.  I am very excited to  start the new year, but still have a few things to do to get ready and a little bit more summer vacation to enjoy.

I hope you can all come to see our classroom and meet me on Wed., Aug. 31st.  I will be there from 9:30-10:30 so that you can see our room and meet me.

When you visit, you will find a folder on your desk that will contain notes and papers to fill out and return on the first day of school. There is also a small project for you to work on at home. It is a book about you. Please return it by Friday, September 9th.

I hope you have been reading lots of books and practicing the 40 kindergarten words that you received at the end of the school year.  Don't forget to decorate  and return it for our "Hooked on Reading" bulletin board.

First grade teachers will be making a huge effort to send home less notes/papers for you to read.  We will be using the new "parent portal" once it is 100% up and running.  We hope to have that in place by October!

This blog page is a new addition to my website.  Please be patient with me as I learn the ins and outs "blogging"!  My intentions are to update it throughout the year on a weekly or bi-monthly basis.

Thank you for checking my web page.  I will see you on Wednesday!
