Hello! It's a short week with conferences on Wednesday from 3 - 8pm. If you are unsure of your scheduled time please call me 856-697-0155 ext 124.

There are 5 children absent today so something is going around. Please remember if your child has a temperature they must be fever/medicine free for 24 hours before returning to school. Let's try to keep the germs from spreading.

Grace is out because her paternal grandfather passed away on Friday. Keep them in your prayers.

I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend! My dad is flying in from Tampa for my grandmother's 102 birthday! Isn't that wonderful! She loves the Phillies and never thought she'd live long enough to see them win the World Series - maybe she'll get to see two! I love to hear her stories of her first 'horse & buggy ride' and the boy who sat behind her in school that would dip her hair in the ink well on his desk - his name was Ernie and was still her friend until his death a few years ago. She can recite a Bible verse for every letter of the alphabet and she plays a mean game of 500 rummy.

K -4th graders enjoyed the yearly motivational program at the Newfield Fire Hall this morning. Starring Hannah Montana (go figure) the program this year discussed how to be a good friend. It's a 'movie' spread out on 3 movie screens with 3 different scenes happening at all times. The basic theme was that we should count our friends in "quality NOT quanity" - the kids loved it.

On Wednesday afternoon I am attending a Middle States meeting with Dr. Alimenti. I'm not sure who the sub will be, but we're switching our Spanish class to the afternoon so they'll only have a sub for about an hour. They'll do great with anyone - what a great group!

All else is good - have a great October. *I'll get pictures uploaded soon - we've just been soooo busy!

The class is anxious to see if Jordan needs glasses - and we know that Kylie will be the first to know! Happy Birthday to Kylie's mom - we won't say how old you are (but we ALL know!). Miranda lost her 2nd tooth in 10 days - in school! Nate told me yesterday that I should call him a 'Mr. Smarty Pants' because he's so smart! We began a new 'game' to end the day. One child stands in front of the room and says "I'm thinking of an animal that begins with the letter ___ " and the other children guess and the right guess means it's your turn. For some reason the kids love to say 'E' for elephant-seal. So needless to say there's a big turnover in turns! We'll change the game up a little as the year goes by.
Mrs. Mulutzie and I have discussed a harvest type trip for Oct/Nov. PK3 is going to Muzzerelli's Farm, K & 1 are going back to Duffields. We can keep the cost down if we only have 1 bus and not require all parents to attend but can follow us. Let me know your suggestions and what you think.
We've accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. Our new gym teacher, Kerry Lillia loves working with our class. They play nice together and love to learn new games/sport activities. Of course we already knew that! Ask your child why they are doing so well in 2nd grade (I tell them it's because they had a great 1st grade teacher - see what they say lol)
Monday night is back to school night. Come on out and check out the 2nd grade books - the math is amazing! You'll be glad to know that we only have 6 theme tests in reading in comparison to last year's 12! We'll talk a little about Penance & Communion too.
A great big thanks for all that you do at home! Your children are a wonderful reflection of your parenting skills.

It was a great week despite the rain! We got a lot done this week while other classes are still trying to get  into a routine. Our first story Dragon was fun to read and the kids really enjoyed it. We're speeding through the 1st grade review in math and the children are very proud of their work. Thank you for all your hard word this summer, it certainly shows! We've welcomed a few new students in the Newfield campus and 2 children (3rd & 4th) will 'shadow' next week - from different families/schools. I went to a CAP meeting on Thursday night for my 5 year renewal and there were several teachers from area schools. One teacher came up to me and said "I heard that you have an amazing principal and your school is doing really well this year." I couldn't have said it better myself! Have a great weekend!

Mass was beautiful, the kids were so well behaved. We did have a little excitement - thanks to Jillian - but all turned out great! We made 'Our first week in school' booklets and learned about the food groups while making our personal 'Foods Book.' Thanks to everyone who helped to make this week so easy for everyone. Thanks to Kevin's mom for helping with lunch on Thursday - hope to see you again!!! Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see everyone on Tuesday. Remember to call or email me anytime with questions OR now you can use this blog!

Copy of letter sent home today:
    September 3, 2009
Hello!! We’re off to a great start! I know that we will have another great year. The children welcomed Kevin & Marco with a great big Notre Dame family hug.
I am sending home a yellow and a gray paper that is asking you to buy something – don’t buy it! Just your signature gives our class points towards items for our classroom. If you are interested in purchasing one of the magazines please do, but it doesn’t matter as far as the points.
We are participating in ‘Book It’ (http://bookitprogram.com/) this year beginning October 1st. At the end of each month any child who has read at least two age appropriate books will receive a free one topping personal pizza from Pizza Hut. Please write the title/author of each book in the homework assignment book. All the information on the certificate must be filled out to receive the pizza. I will sign it and send it home to be competed (name, school, etc). Thanks! Don’t forget to check out the 2nd grade web page at http://teacherweb.com/Blog/NJ/NotreDameRegionalSchool-Newfield/MaritaCifaloglio/2/default.aspx I’ve added a ‘blog’ page that I will try to update every evening on the events of the day along with friendly reminders. Let me know what you think of the blog and if I should continue it. I can enable the comment section for you to add additional info or questions – we’ll see how that works. I’m sending home a Troll/Carnival book order form. Please send the order form back by 9/11 if you would like to order a book. Our class earns more points if you place your order online at TrollCarnival.com and pay by credit card. Please check the homework assignment book every night and initial the box so I am aware that you read my notes or homework assignment. Thanks again for entrusting me with your children – I am so excited to be with this great group of kids for another year.

We survived our first day in 2nd grade! We got to know Kevin & Marco and we talked about where we went and what we did over the summer months. Our 'self designed' Tshirts were hung on the clothes line and 2 math pages were completed! The Social Studies, Science and reader went home to get covered.
Get plenty of sleep because we have a full day and lots of work to get done!
I hope that whoever reads this will let me know their opinions - good or bad (oh no) and any suggestions. If no one reads it there is no reason for me to keep it up:P Thanks! Mrs. Cifaloglio

I'm so ready to get back to school! I love summer but I may love my job more! On Wednesday we'll pass out our new 2nd grade books, go over some classroom routine changes (now that we're in 2nd grade) and take some diagnostic testing in reading & math.
We'll welcome 2 new boys to our class. Kevin joins us from St. Mary's and lives in Nate's neighborhood. He is looking forward to meeting his new friends at Notre Dame. Marco moved to Landisville from PA this summer with his parents, 2 sisters and a new baby born 2 weeks ago. Both boys are excited to come to ND and I know we'll give them the ND welcome!

I will try to update this blog daily, which probably means 2/3 times a week. Our family is planning a wedding so that will keep me very busy! Sylvie got engaged on 07/08/09 to high school sweetheart Danielle and set the date as 08/06/10.

Notre Dame has a new facebook page: NotreDame Landisville. It's mostly past & present students keeping each other up on their lives but parents are using it as well. This year we will post pictures on the facebook page as well. There are already a few from summer camp program.

    See everyone soon!  Mrs. Cifaloglio
