Noxon Road 4th grade band students are just learning how to count. Here's a few tips for those of you doing your homework this week!

    *Each measure contains the number "1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +" written under notes and rests.

*The first beat of every new measure will be "1"!

*Rests are silent beats and and they need to be counted!  When you write down silent counts, put them in parenthesis. For example, a measure with a whole rest would be written as "(1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +)"

*Many notes and rests last longer than one beat. If you are playing a whole note for example, you would "attack" or begin the note on beat one, and hold it out for three more beats. If you were writing that out you would make the "1" big, and the rest of the numbers small. This might be written under a whole note:  1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

Good luck, everyone! If any of my students find they need help, they can comment on this post, email me, or wait until I'm back at Noxon on Friday to receive some face-to-face help!

I'd like to welcome all of my new and returning students! I can't wait to see everyone!

A few important notes for Noxon

At Noxon lessons will be starting the first full week of school for both 4th and 5th grade students. Fifth grade students will have lessons on Wednesdays and band rehearsal on both Wenesdays and Fridays. Fourth grade students will have lessons every Friday. When band rehearsals for 4th grade begin in January they will be on Wednesdays.

Parents of students in fourth grade students should make sure that their child will have an instrument in playable condition by the first full week of school. Instruments rented through one of the endorsed retailers (D&M, Barcone's, Music Box) are being delivered directly to Noxon. Please call, email or visit me if you would like to verify that your child's instrument is at school. It can be heartbreaking for a child to show up to his/her first lesson without an instrument to play.

    And a note for Overlook

Thanks to the addition of Mrs. Cowan to the Overlook family,  my schedule has shifted. I am no longer teaching first grade music, with the exception of Mrs. Brickhouse and Mrs. Buckley's class. I am, however, teaching a Music/Literacy enrichment course to some first graders. I'm very excited to start school and see all of my friends from last year!
