We finally started readingThe Hunger Gamesby Suzanne Collins and are ready to begin our journey with Katniss. How do you feel about the way the tributes are chosen to enter the arena? What significance does the mockingjay have to Katniss?

HW: Read chapters 1-4. Reply to blog by Friday.

Over the break: Read Part I
Blog response #2:Why does Peeta choose an alliance with the Career tributes instead of Katniss? Why do the careers allow Peeta to jointhem?

Due Monday, 3/5/12: Finish reading Part II.  Write a comment or question on a Post-it about something that makes you react in some way.

Due Wednesday, 3/7/12. Read chapters 19-23.  Chose two characters....Haymitch, Cato, Thresh or Foxface. While you read, see what new understanding you have for these characters and Stop & Jot on a Post-it.

Blog: What were your feelings while reading about Cato's battle with the wolf-like mutations? Collins gives a description of the attack, but leaves a lot to the reader's imagination. Did you think it was believable or unrealistic? (Finish reading the book.) We will meet on Tuesday.

THE END! Describe your experience as a participant in this book group. What really strikes you about the author's ability to portray this topic?
