The 2nd graders prepared and presented a prayer service today for their parents.  During the service, they recited a poem to the Blessed Mother, entitled Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue

    Lovely Lady dressed in blue-------
    Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
    Tell me what to say!

Did you lift Him up, sometimes,
    Gently on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way
    Mother does to me?

Did you hold His hand at night?
    Did you ever try
    Telling stories of the world?
    O! And did He cry?

Do you really think He cares
    If I tell Him things-------
    Little things that happen? And
    Do the Angels' wings

Make a noise? And can He hear
    Me if I speak low?
    Does He understand me now?
    Tell me-------for you know.

    Lovely Lady dressed in blue-------
    Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
    And you know the way

Tonight, St. Martin de Porres School was proud to turn the spotlight on the 82 students who are members of the school band.  The concert kicked off with the Cadet Band (aka the beginner band).  They performed four numbers, including Hot Cross Buns and Merrily We Roll Along.
The Jazz Ensemble followed and rocked the auditorium with their renditions of such selections as On Broadway, Rock Hero, and Louie Louie.  During the songs, several of the more experienced jazz band members performed improvisational solos.

The experienced band members concluded the program and performed a number of songs, including Day-o, Hawaii 5-o, and Rockin' Robbin.

Kudos to all of the students for their outstanding performance this evening, and a heartfelt thank you to our band directors, Mrs. Bellino, Mr. Varuzzo, and Mr. Tomlinson.

"Oh, well, what's a royal ball? I suppose it would be frightfully dull, and boring, and completely... completely wonderful." - Cinderella

The Royal Coach was parked in front of St. Martin's this evening.  The young ladies were dressed in their prettiest, frilliest dresses, their heads adorned with tiaras.  They posed for a photo with their dads and were welcomed with the sound of a trumpet as they stepped onto the red carpet.  The dads and their daughters had a wonderful time as they twirled around the dance floor.

It all started with caterpillars, and on this sunny, spring day,  the Kindergarten class released 6 beautiful butterflies.  They watched as each butterfly spread its wings and took flight.

One butterfly decided to linger a little longer.

The Pre-K 3 class also watched the release.

Kindergarten has been learning about the life cycle of the butterfly.

They have been watching as each caterpillar in their classroom butterfly habitat turns into a chrysallis . . .

. . . and then transforms wonderfully and beautifully into a butterfly!

They also made butterflies from colored cereal and decorated clothespins.

There are always interesting projects and art works adorning the hallways of St. Martin's.  The 2nd graders are learning a unique way to memorize liquid measurement facts with the help of Gallon Man:
    Two cups
    equal a pint
    Two pints
    equal a quart
    Four quarts
    equal a gallon.

The 3rd grade drew some wild and crazy portraits.  Could this be a potential idea for next year's Catholic Schools Week?
