You are doing a great job traveling through Poetryville and learning about poetry so that you can help the people of Poetryville.  Before their memories were erased by the evil Dr. Pros, the people of Poetryville didn't  watch many T.V. shows or play many video games at night.  They prefer to sit around and read and talk about all different kinds of poetry.  Do you think this is something you would like to do?  Explain why or why not.

    Roses are Red,
    Violets are Blue,
    Mrs. Costello loves poetry,
    And you will too!!!

We are going to start learning about poetry. Poetry is so much fun to read, write and recite!  For tonight's homework find a poem that you think is fun to read and that you'd like to share! Here's a great link www.poetry4kids.com/poems  Print it out and bring it in to school tomorrow or if you have a favorite poem you'd like to share from a book, please bring in the book.  We will be using these during Readers Workshop tomorrow.

Today we got a special treat at our monthly read aloud. You were all so excited to find out that our guest reader was Ricky! He read  Boxes for Katje, a wonderful book about a community that takes responsibility to help others.  Mr. Jones asked what kind of repsonsibilities, you have and you were all eager to share, but there just wasn't enough time, so now is your oppurtunity.  What are you responsible for at home or at school and why is it so important to be responsible?  Please make sure you are answering in complete sentences. I can't wait to read them!

Costello's Cafe was a HUGE success! Our customers are still raving about it! My favorite part was watching how you all worked together as a team to get your jobs done! What did you like most about the cafe? Do you suggest that I make any changes for next year? If you have some suggestions to make the cafe even better I would love to hear them!  Remember to answer in complete sentences!

Today we started our Non-Fiction Unit in Readers Workshop. We will be learning all about the features we can find in non-fiction writing and we will be learning how to research for information.  We will be doing a non-fiction research project on an animal. For fun go to http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/animals/creaturefeature/ and choose an animal to read about. Make sure it's one you don't know anything about. Please get a grown up to help you. Then on the blog please (in complete sentences) tell us what animal you read about, one interesting fact and please also post a picture by cutting and pasting. Here's an example:
I read about the Mexican Axolotl. I learned that it can regenerate it's body parts.  COOL!!!!

Today we began learning about coins.  We discussed who is on each coin, what symbols each coin has, how much each coin is worth and what they are made of. If you were approached by the President to create a new coin who would you put on the coin, what symbol would you put on it, how much would you make it worth and what would it be made out of and why???  Have fun!

We have really been enjoying our newest book, James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.  I can tell from all of the moans and groans as I put the book mark in the book that you can't wait to see what happens next, so let's do some predicting!!  At the end of the last chapter James was wondering what was going to to happen to him next. What do you think will happen?  Remember, the movie and the book are very different so even if you THINK you know what happens next you may be surprised!
