    Using the internet, find ONE "cool" fact about science.  For example: It takes 8 minutes 17 seconds for light to travel from the Sun’s surface to the Earth.  You may NOT duplicate a previous answer that has been posted by your classmate.

    Posts must be received by midnight on Thursday, August 25th, to be eligible for extra credit.  It will NOT show up on the website until it is approved by me.

    Most importantly, when posting to this website, NEVER use your last name or email address.  Post your answers using your first name and class period.  Feel freel to look around my site!  It will come in handy this year!

    At a hot air balloon festival, hot air balloons slowly fill and then magically float within our atmosphere.  How do these hot air balloons fly?  Use Boyle's Law and Charles' Law and explain your answer.  I'm looking for an extended response to receive the full extra credit. Use the internet to help with your answer.

    Blogs should be thought-out, well written and quality 9th grade work. Due by Thursday, 3/10 at midnight. For safety purposes, please don't include your last name or email. If your post is not accepted by me, it means it did not meet the criteria above and wasn't eligible for extra credit.

    The government estimates that over 206 million gallons of oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico from the Deepwater Horizon oil rig.  Oil is extremely toxic to all wild life, and the toxic effects hit the marine life from the minute the oil hit the water. Using your knowledge of biomes and how human actions can effect an ecosystem, describe at least three marine animals that were effected by this tragedy and explain how those animals can effect the rest of a marine food web.

    Blogs should be thought-out, well written and quality 7th grade work. This means doing your research (don't just guess) and writing a response with at least 50 words or more.  Due date is by Sunday, October 24, 2010 at midnight.

    If your post is not accepted by me, it means it did not meet the criteria above and wasn't eligible for extra credit. For safety purposes, include your first name and class period.  Do NOT include last names in your post.

    Design a Severe Weather Action Plan for your home in the case of an emergency. Include areas in your home you would avoid, places you would go (i.e. basement), what you would cover yourself with, how you would notify authorities for help and who you would call.  Keep in mind the location you live. For instance, if you live in a house without a basement, what is your alternative?  Remember to include all members of your family and who is responsible for making sure your brothers and sisters are safe.  What if your mom or dad is still at work?  What if your little brother is still at school?

    Your action plan should be well-written and include detailed steps of action.  Blogs that are under 50 words will not be eligible for extra credit.  Use your knowledge of weather (and various internet sights) to help you design an action plan for your family.  Blog are due by Sunday, May 30th at midnight to be eligible for extra credit.

    NOTE: do NOT include your last name in your posts.  First name and period number is acceptable.

    Since most of you will be driving the roads of Burton within the next year (scary, I know) let's apply a little physics to it.  To better prepare you to keep our roads safe, explain:

    1.  Why does the passenger side mirror on my car state "objects in mirror are closer than they appear?"
    2.  Why isn't the same warning on the driver's side mirror?
    3.  Explain the physics behind this concept and relate it to our recent lesson about reflection and mirrors.

    Blogs should be thought-out, well written and quality 9th grade work.  It will be graded for accuracy (i.e. don't just guess).  You must also reference where you found your answer.  Due by Sunday, 4/26 at midnight. For safety purposes, please don't include your last name or email.

    As we continue our study of the Atomic Nature of Elements, it's important to relate it to our every day lives.  In this blog, you are to find ten household items with ingredient lists.  Look at the active and inactive ingredients listed on the product label and find at least one chemical name from each that has a recognizable element or ion present.  Use the format below.

    All answers should be well-thought, complete and 9th grade work.  Answers eligible for extra credit will be accepted thru Monday, January 12, 2009.

    1.  Household Item:
    2.  Chemical Name
    3.  Elements or Ions present

    As studied in Ch 3, all objects (regardless of their mass) free fall with the same acceleration - 10 m/s/s. This acceleration value is so important in physics that it has its own name -  the acceleration of gravity - and its own symbol - g. But why do all objects free fall at the same rate of acceleration regardless of their mass? Is it because they all weigh the same? ... because they all have the same gravity? ... because the air resistance is the same for each? Why?

    Use the website below to help you.  Answers must be quality 9th grade responses with at least 50 words.  Read the information and put it into your own words.  Blog will close at the end of the week for extra credit.

    Look at the illustration using the link below.  Explain (in detail) what forces are acting on the fish.  You must reference what type of motion it is (using the symbol and type - i.e. force of gravity = Weight/W) in reference to a free-body diagram.  As you target each force, explain what part of the fish is causing the force and in what direction.  Extra credit will be issued to well-written, quality 9th grade answers.  Once you have viewed the website below, RETURN TO MY WEB PAGE, click on "add comment" and your comment will post on my web page.

    Using the checklist below, please rate your learning experience with Study Island and this week's review for the OAT.

    Begin your post with the number of the rating you select:
    4 = extremely helpful
    3 = helpful
    2 = somewhat helpful
    1 = not helpful

    What was most helpful?  Do you think you would have remembered the material without Study Island?

    Feel free to respond to and elaborate on other students posts.  Please respond with intelligent thought-out answers.  Anyone responding inappropriately will be dealt with accordingly. You do NOT have to put your last name on your blog entry.  Only I will see your email address.
