As school comes to a close, thoughts turn to summertime.  Summertime makes me think of delicious summer fruit.  Luckily, summer fruit can help keep kids busy and help with literacy skills.  Here are some delicious letter/ word games that would be perfect for summer:
    Appletters- ages 5 and Up
Pairs in Pears- ages 5 and Up
Apples to Apples Jr.- ages 7 and Up
    BananaGrams- ages 8 and UP
These games are great fun for the entire family (even my family plays them) and are available @ places like Wal-Mart, Target, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.com.

If you are looking for other things to read and do, check out this webpage's

If you know of other great games and activities, send me a message.  I will be checking in over the summer and would be happy to share your info.

    Have a Great Summer and
    Read, Read, Read!!

Last week 3rd grade PASSPORT friends got a chance to play the game Apples to Apples Jr. If you haven't had a chance to play this game with your kids, check it out.  Not only does this game require some reading but it is excellent for vocabulary building.  It is loads of fun for kids and adults (Miss Pappas' family plays this game lots, sometimes even without kids). It is a great family time game that's not football.

All of the Kindergarten- 3rd grade students that see me during the day should now have access to RAZ-kids.com.  This is an online program that allows students to listen to books, read books, do activities, and earn points.  It is a great way to get kids reading more often, which can make them better readers.  If your child does not have a password to access this yet, let me know, I'll get you fixed up.
    Happy Reading!!

School has started and we are now in the swing of things for the 2011-2012 school year.  Remember in addition to nightly homework, your child should be reading at least 20 minutes every night.  This is important to help them grow and develop reading skills.
Check out my teacher web for lots of ideas to engage readers.  If you have an idea of something to add to this teacher web (link, activity, or just want to see more of something) send me a message, and I will try to get it on here.
    Have a happy September!!
