Okay...finally.  Now that we're done with the book, this is your opportunity to give some insight into what you thought of the book as a whole.  What did you like or dislike about the characters, plot (especially the ending), writing style, etc.?  You can be honest, but, as always, keep comments appropriate!

These chapters come back to focus on Hester.  We see that she has changed significantly as a result of her punishment.  At this point, who do you think has suffered more, Hester or Dimmesdale?  Do you think Hester's punishment by the town is worse than Dimmesdale's self-inflicted punishment?  Why or why not?

In chapters 17-20, Hester finally reveals Chillingworth's identity to Dimmesdale.  Dimmesdale has trouble forgiving Hester for not revealing this sooner, but he tells her,"We are not...the worst sinners in the world...That old man's revenge has been blacker than my sin."  Do you agree with Dimmesdale that Chillingworth's sin is worse than his and Hester's?  Why or why not?

This week's chapters focus on Rev. Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth.  Post a comment about either or both of these characters and what you think of them at this point in the book.  Are either of them particularly likeable?

This blog will be a place for you to post comments related to The Scarlet Letter.  Each week, I'll post a question or quote for discussion.  Should you successfully write and post at least a three sentence response, you will be awarded three points (limit three points per week).  Please keep in mind the blog etiquette we discussed in class.  Also, please don't duplicate posts.

This week, to start things off, I invite you to post an original comment or insight regarding any of the characters, events, or symbolism from the novel in chapters 5-8.  Remember to enter your full name when replying, as both of my academic sections will be using this blog.
