Mrs. Miller's First Grade!

The children were very disappointed this morning when they realized that the field trip was canceled.  It would have been a really lousy day up at the pumpkin patch so as sad as it was, it is a good thing we did not go!  I believe we are working on a rescheduled day for the trip.  More information will be coming as soon as I know more.  We had an afternoon Halloween movie today with Ms. Bantel and Mrs. Novicki's classes to try to make up for some of the kid's disappointment.  So they still have a little bit of a treat!  Some of the kids brought money in for the field trip.  I have it locked up until we go so if you are looking for it, I have it kept in a safe place!

Our Treasures have finally arrived!  I showed the prizes to the kids in class today.

I ordered a whole bucket full of treasures for spelling class.  Each time your child builds up 5 correct bonus words from the spelling tests, he/she will be able to pick a treasure from the bucket.  You can keep up on how many bonus words your child has when the tests come home.  Next to the bonus you will see a number with a circle around it.  This indicates how many correct bonus words he/ she has so far!  Right now we have had 3 spelling tests so if your child got all 3 bonus words correct, only 2 more words are needed to get a treasure!

I just wanted to remind you that Thursday is the first math test.  Homework will come home the day before to help your child study. 

 

Also, I told the children that you can view their test scores for all the tests that they take on this website by clicking on the "keeping up with your child's grades" link.  I know a few of them did go home and tell you.  I just wanted to warn you that Skyward is not up and running yet for the teachers.  We can't record any of our grades yet.  I have forwarded an e-mail to our computer guys in hopes of getting this problem fixed soon.  I will let you know when it is up and running.

All of the above content can be reviewed on this website.  Click the link "Storytown Weekly Reading Stories (tested) for extra practice.  Homework will be coming home this week as well to help you review!  We are also working hard on the skills in class.  The children are doing very well so far!

We all survived the first day of school!  It was a long day for the kids, but they were troopers and worked hard all day.  We actually accomplished quite a bit!  We read a story about frogs and then responded to it by creating our own frogs.  Every child completed the frog correctly.  What a great bunch of listeners we have this year.  We also did some handwriting, played a math game, and worked on our first writing assignment. 

Tomorrow, please send your child to school with a smock if you have one.  It is art day.  I do have some extras in case that is a problem.   It was nice to meet many of you and look forward to meeting the rest of you in the weeks to come!
