Book covers looked awesome!  They are displayed on a bulletin board in the library.
Your assignment for the next two weeks (January 8-21) is to read whichever book your "book club" chose and meet twice weekly to discuss it.  You should have plenty of class time to read most of the book.   The following week you will choose one scene from the book to do a short readers' theatre on.  Your group must write its own script (we will look at some plays to see how to format this).  You will have time to rehearse it during class and develop it for presentation to other classrooms at LMS.  Scripts will be due by Jan. 27.  Jan.27 and 28 will be rehearsal/work days.  We will do performances for other classes the following week.  I can't wait to see how creative you can be with this!  If it snows and we miss days, due dates will be adjusted.

We will take today(Thursday) off from blogging and let everyone who is behind catch up!  You will only have 2 more posts on this book--one Monday and the final one Thursday.

We need books by the following authors:
We can use others by these authors but I really want to introduce some newer books also.
Your help is greatly appreciated in securing copies of these books.  Just bring in any you have. I'll round up more at  the local libraries.
Thank you to Courtney Savage for bringing in 4 New Books!
We will play our "Dirty Books" (like Dirty Santa) game Thursday to see which book you get to read.

No entry needed!  Just a reminder that $7.50 for a Twilight ticket is due Wednesday first thing.  We will go to the 7PM movie in Cookeville.  If you want to get online and buy your own ticket that is fine.   The movie is Friday, Nov. 21.  The movie won't be as good as the book!

Our book is said to be a "bildungsroman."  Your challenge is to find out what this means and tell us why this book is a "bildungsroman."  Happy Hunting!

    Monday 10-28-08 Response Due Thursday
Read through the material regarding 1964-1968.
This is very descriptive of the time period of our novel. I think you will get a good picture of the world Lily and Rosaleen live in.
Do you think the moves of the 60s have succeeded in making the US equal for blacks, whites, women, etc.?  What have we as a nation succeeded at in this area?  Failed at?
Please use your best grammar skills (capitaliztion, spelling, punctuation, etc). While you are not being graded, remember that practice is important.  If you do it wrong here, you will probably do it wrong on a graded paper later--practice your best. Typos are understandable!

Thursday 10-24-08 Post Response Due Monday 10-28-08
This week we have met Lily, her dad, and Rosaleen.   What do you think happened to Lily's mother?  Pretend you are the author and write a page telling how Lily remembers everything(be as descriptive as possible--what triggers the memory,  sights and sounds that she remembers, feelings).
