We have a test tomorrow.  A version of the test and th test review done in class have been posted and can be retrieved from the test/test review section.  The class notes have also been posted and can be retrieved from the notes section.  If you are printing the notes... choose to print "handouts" rather than "slides" on the print menu.

The physical science classes currently only have two test grades.  Many students have a poor grade on one or both of the previous tests.  An outstanding grade on this test would really help!

We took notes on covalent compounds yesterday and had a quiz today.  The quiz was a measure of what was understood yesterday and what needed to be reviewed today.  We will have another quiz tomorrow!  The 2nd 9 wks midterm ends on 11/16.

Class time this week has been devoted to practicing writing and naming binary ionic compounds.  The students have been allowed to make corrections to incorrect answers on all practice work before submitting for a grade.  Many students have failed to return work and therefore have poor grades.  Today, we took a quiz over naming and writing ionic compounds and moved our focus toward writing and naming ionic compounds that contain polyatomic ions.

There have been a significant number of poor grades on the first few assignments of the 9 weeks.  The students were given classtime today to make corrections on assignments submitted earlier this week to improve their grade.  Some students were able to complete work before the end of class while others required more time and took the rest to do as homework.  Re-submitted work will be re-graded and will replace the existing grade.
We also have had a slow start to the 9 weeks and will increase the pace greatly beginning on monday.

We completed the first half of a periodic table activity today.  The students should clue cards completed before class tomorrow to be able to finish the activity.  A copy of this activity is available in the homework section if needed.

1st 9wks Physical Science grades are now available. Today, we watched a video on the elements. Tomorrow, we will do an activity on placing elements in groups based on their properties. Just as a reminder-students are given opportunities to re-take tests and/or the chance for remediation to improve grades.

The final grades for the 1st 9 wks are almost complete.  It appears that only 13 individuals will receive an F and 12 of them have zero's for unexcused absences and/or missing work.  It is nearly impossible to pass when zero's are averaged into the grade.  Please make sure a note accompanies the student's return to school AND that the student takes the note to the office between 8:00 and 8:15 to turn the note in to Mr Woods for the official record.  I would really appreciate hearing from any parents that have comments.  Thanks.
