Most students have obtained a part in our annual OSCAR's performance.  I'm so glad!

For those unfamiliar with the OSCAR's, it stands for Our Students Care About Reading, and it is an awards type show, but book characters and authors are honored.  Students play the characters and authors on stage.  All students will work next week to create the set which consists of giant book cover replicas.

Each student that signed up for a part is responsible for developing a costume which represents their character or author. Students who have parts as nominees need to develop short acceptance speeches in the event they win their category. We will work on this in class.  Students who have parts as presenters will read from a prepared script.

Rehearsals will be May 26th, and the actual performance on May 27th at 9:00 a.m.  It is critical that students with parts be present on both days.

There will be a celebratory luncheon following the performance at 12:00p.m.  Parents willing to help with the luncheon should contact Anjie Collins.

We are on the home stretch!  I can't believe how quickly this year has passed, or that it almost time to turn this bunch of students over to the 8th grade.  This last 9 weeks will be very busy, beginning with TCAP tests and ending with end of the year activities.  Please help your child keep up with events from day to day by enforcing the continued use of their planner and the school and teacher web sites.  Thank you for a GREAT YEAR!

Well guys, it's time for spring break.  Time to get a break from school, vacation, hang out with friends, and take it easy.  Right?  Wrong!  It's time to review for TCAPs!  Can I get a Whoop! Whoop!?  There will only be about 10 good teaching days before tests once we return from spring break, so I encourage you to visit the link on this site labeled "Study Island" and review.  That site is directly correlated to the Tennessee State Standards.  Just click on your grade and you can review lessons and take quizzes in all subjects.  ENJOY!

p.s. Bonus points will be available for any student who reviews and takes quizzes in language arts.

The next few weeks we will be working hard to make sure we know all the reading and writing information we have learned this year.  We will also be adding new learning.  Some new topics will be propaganda and foreign phrases.  I have included notes along with assignments under the link "Weekly Assignments".  TCAP tests will be given in 26 more school days!!  Students have worked hard, now it is time for them to show it.

Hello and welcome to my first official blog!  I will be using this blog as a way of giving extra information to students and parents daily or weekly.

I am enabling comments, so please add your own thoughts.

Number one for this week:  HOMEFUN
Due to our excessive absences, many students have gotten out of the habit of reading.  The only homework I give is 20-30 minutes of reading nightly; therefore, I do expect it to be done.  By practicing reading nightly, students not only improve their reading skills but also their spelling, vocabulary, and writing skills.

PLEASE make an effort to see that your child is reading every night.

    Number two: Business Letters
We will be writing business letters in class this week.  Please talk to your child about your own business correspondence requirements and the importance of good writing skills.

I look forward to a full 5 days of uninterrupted learning this week!
