    Ms. Lyons' challenge to test a product has encouraged our students to put the scientific method to use in their lives.  They might be testing various types of chewing gum to see how long the flavor lasts; or trying out different shampoos or deodorants.  The results should prove interesting!
    In Language Arts, Ms Humphries read from a memoir and then started the students writing about a personal experience from their past.  The 7th grade language arts curriculum focuses on writing.  Exploring the writing process from brainstorming, initial draft and editing through to the final product will allow students to produce colorful memoirs.

    There are tests in both Texas History and Math on Friday.
    Texas History's test will cover geography and native Americans.  The best review is to study the maps and other assignments from the last week.

    In math, the test will be over squares, square roots, order of operations and other review material that we have done in class and for homework.

    TX History:  They were introduced to the Texas State Seal today.  For homework, they are making their own Seal.  They left class with a large circle drawn on a sheet of computer paper.  It needs to include the following:
    Seal of ____ (name)   - written across the top
    A small picture of themselves in the center (getting one was homework for last evening)
    Their "motto" along the bottom (philosophy, feelings, describes them or reflects interests)
    Around the circle:
    @ 2 o'clock position: 1-2 things about their family (these could be pictures, drawing, or words)
    @ 4 o'clock position: 1 unique thing about the student (what they are good at, what makes them special or different, something they want to share)
    @8 o'clock position: 2-3 favorite things
    @ 10 o'clock: 2-3 hobbies and interests

    Their Seal is to be brought to class on Thursday.  Do not cut them out until tomorrow in class.  They will be mounted on the wall in the classroom.

    Science:  The only homework is to return a yellow paper signed by parents.

    Math:  They had a worksheet (#1-1) and were to complete 3 questions: 2,3,4 if not completed in class.  Most students were close to finishing before the class ended.
