What could be more precious than gold, especially since it has reached its highest price in history? Simple. Check out the metals market prices today. For a new uncirculated gold dollar, bring me a piece of paper with the following information:

Name. Period. Date. Name of a metal more expensive than gold. Its price on a given date and time.

While you are looking read about what is happening to the rare-earth elements in the world today. ... and you thought they weren't important. 'Useful they are', said my friend Yoda.

This summer I put my ear to the ground to find out what is happening in the world of geology. Three topics kept showing up in the news; hydraulic fracturing, the Texas/Antarctica connection, and rare-earth minerals.

After a dip into the local stream to wash off the dirt, I wrote some thoughts on paper and decided this might be the year to start a Geology Club.

With a perfect geology club each person decides what interests them most. But everone will learn the basics of geology.

This is a first. For those who do this all the time, please excuse the mistakes as just a sheer lack of experience. Comments and suggestions are welcome as long as they are friendly and sincere. Keep track of our progress through the year. So far, I feel  . Help!
