In math this week we learned about the 3D shapes of cone, cylinder, cube, and sphere.  On Friday after reading the story Captain Invincible by Stuart Murphy, (a book about 3D shapes) we made a graph of 3D snacks.  First we sorted the snacks by shape, then we counted how many were in each group and colored in our graph to match the number that we had on our plate.
Have your child find examples of 3D shapes at home.

This week in science we learned about some of the properties of matter.  We learned that  color is one property of matter.  We learned that we can change colors by mixing primary colors together.  In this activity we first read the story Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh and then we used water colors to mix primary colors of red, yellow, and blue, to make the secondary colors of green, orange, purple.  Ask your child what colors are needed to make orange, purple and green.

We had a fun time today on Teddy Bear Day!

In this photo we made a REAL graph using our teddy bears .  We graphed them according to size - small, medium and large.  Ask your child which category had the most bears in it and which had the least.

Next we tasted four different kinds of Teddy Grahams.  We made a graph of our favorite.  Ask your child which was his/her favorite flavor.

Next, we sorted our bears by color.  Ask your child which category his/her bear fit in to.  Which group had the most?  The least?  Discuss with your child - What does the word "sorting" mean?
