Think you know everything there is to know about this year's Bluebonnet books?  Check your knowledge at this year's Battle of the Bluebonnets.
Several of the librarians from Leander ISD have challenged us to put together a team of 4-5 students of our most knowledgable Bluebonnet readers to compete in the Battle of the Bluebonnets.  We will be competing with other students from schools in Leander and Round Rock to see who can answer questions about this year's Bluebonnet books.  The competition is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23rd, from 4-5 pm at Cox Elementary in Leander ISD.  Come out and cheer us on!  Go Live Oak!

On December 9th, Phil Bildner, the author of the Sluggers chapter book series, came to visit the 4th graders at Live Oak.  He did a writing camp with them and talked to them about the importance of revising your writing.  He also taught them about using "Show not Tell" and about exploding the moment.  The students were able to get some great ideas for their own writing.

In November, the author, Susan Stevens Crummel visited Live Oak.  She is the author of one of this year's Bluebonnet Nominees, Help Me, Mr. Mutt.  All the students K-5 were able to visit with her.  It was very entertaining.  The students were laughing and having a great time.
She even motivated some of our students to begin writing stories, themselves.  Two fourth grade students decided to collaborate on a book where one would write the story and the other would illustrate the story.
Check back soon for pictures of her visit!
