Ms. Shaw’s Advanced Theatre Arts I Class
Hello! My name is Erin Shaw, I am your child’s Advanced Theatre Arts I teacher. A little about myself – this is my 7th year teaching here at McNeil. I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Masters in Theatre. I have Bachelors in Theatre and Art. I am also an Administrative Intern here at McNeil.
I break the year down into units. Theatre is a huge discipline, with many areas for intensive study especially at the collegiate level, if your child is so inclined. Theatre I covers the basics. The main thing I want your child to get from this class is, amongst many other things, an improved sense of self confidence speaking and interacting in front of others, and a healthy appreciation of the art of theatre and how it permeates our society and culture today. I also want your child to have fun.
I strongly encourage each of my students to audition for the school productions. While you learn much in the classroom, being part of a school play is an invaluable and unforgettable process. Auditions for the fall show Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead are after school in A117 (the Little Theatre) Wednesday, Sept. 2nd through Friday Sept. 4th. Auditions involve cold readings (readings from the script). Scripts are available to check out the first week of school prior to auditions from Mr. Johnson in Portable 1.
If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to e-mail me or call.

I also have a website at that I update regularly.
