The Church projects this year look beautiful - I'd like to thank the students (and I'm sure some parents!) for putting so much time and effort into them. Grades for the church projects will be done by Tuesday afternoon.

To the student who emailed me about their email account:

I found this on the web:

What to do if your account has been hacked into

If your Hotmail or msn.com e-mail account has been hacked into you will need to contact Hotmail Support directly to request assistance. They can be contacted via the following web page:

    https://support.live.com/eform.aspx?productKey=wlmail&ct=eformts

In your correspondence to them you will need to let them know that your account has been hacked into and that is why you are requesting assistance, as your password and secret question/answer have been changed. Also, you will need to answer the questions below:

    1. Sign-in name
    2. Name
    3. Postcode
    4. State
    5. Country
    6. Date of birth
    7. The addresses saved in your address book
    8. Names of folders in your account
    9. Any e-mails that were in the Inbox
    10. Approximate date of last successful login
    11. Approximate date of registering your account
    12. Previous passwords used on the account
    13. Your Internet service provider (ISP)
Hope that helps - good luck!

Here are a few non-partisan resources to help you form your conscience in anticipation of the presidential election next week. They don’t focus on individual candidates or the platforms they are running on; they focus on the larger issues of what the Church teaches about social justice and participation in our electoral process.

September 29 is the Feast of the Archangels, and October 2 is the feast of the Guardian Angels. The question comes up in my classes every year: do we turn into angels when we die?

Angels, our Church teaches, are purely spiritual beings like God (as opposed to us who are body, mind, soul and spirit). They were created by God before the creation of the material universe to aid him in his grand work of creation. They continue, as God's messengers (the literal translation of the word "angel") to carry out God's will in heaven and on earth.

If we are given the wonderful grace of entering into heaven when we die, we become saints, not angels. We praise God, we intercede (pray for) people here on earth, but we do not become angelic beings.

May your guardian angel continue to watch over you this month and always!

    Gala Projects
7th Grade students began working on their Gala projects today. In that light, I wanted to offer a thank you for our PTO officers and for all the parents who volunteer their time to help with special projects like this. Our school would be going nowhere fast without your support, and our prayers as a class are with you.

    Religion Class
Students are testing over Chapter 3 on Wednesday. They will take a practice test home on Tuesday to help them study for the test, as this test has many vocabulary words. They will be using these vocabulary words over the next several chapters, so it's good for them to learn them now. Ask your kids about them on Tuesday or Wednesday evening - you may be able to pick up a smattering of Latin! :)

We're in the home stretch for the first month of school - hard to believe that progress reports are just around the corner! Students are practicing for their Apostle's Creed test, as well as studying for their Chapter 2 test (both this week).

Did you know that earlier translations of the Apostle's Creed used the phrase "he descended into hell" about Jesus? (You may remember memorizing this prayer that way). Our current translations favor "he descended to the dead." This is because in the word we use comes from the Hebrew sheol, which was translated / interpreted to the Greek hades. Both words refer to a shadowy underworld where souls would await the end of the world and their judgment. Since our English word "hell" is associated with the Devil, fire and eternal punishment, we use the phrase "to the dead" instead. It better symbolizes the journey Jesus took to redeem us and eternally open the gates of heaven.

Greetings 7th Grade parents & students!

We survived the month of August are now starting September. I hope the long weekend gave y'all renewed energy for the month ahead.

Last week the students finished Chapter 1. We took some extra time with the chapter so that everyone was sure they had a grasp on the concepts of symbols and rituals. The students took tests and the grades were for the most part very good. This week we will take a deeper look at symbols and rituals in our celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. We will also take some time to ponder over the meaning of the Paschal Mystery.

Not sure what that will entail? Ask your student for some info, or come back in a few days!

    Blessings & Peace,

Our 7th Grade students came back like ducks to water - I saw smiling faces and eager minds ready to plunge back into school life.

In class students are learning about symbols  - what they are, how they work, and how they make up a significant portion of our lives. We have explored the importance of ritual in our lives, and the three defining characteristics of ritual (repetitive, communal, acted out).

Students brought in a symbolic object, poem/story, or song for an assignment. Several students explained the symbol to the class, and those that did not have a chance on Friday will be able to do so today. I was moved at the storied students told about their symbols, and humbled at the depth of feeling and meaning that was evoked by the simple objects they brought in.

I look forward to this short week as we complete this first chapter of our 7th grade year.
