    Dear Class,

       Today I read Fly Away Home, by Eve Bunting. This realistic fiction story takes place in an airport during current times. A little boy and his dad live in an airport because they are homeless. They have to move around and blend in with the crowd so that they are not kicked out by security. 
       I really loved this book because it made me think about homeless people in a different way. I can't imagine what it would be like to not have a bed to sleep in, or a kitchen to eat in. I really like the way the author used a bird to represent the little boy feeling trapped. When the bird escaped, this made me think the boy had hope.
       While I was reading I used context clues to help me figure out difficult words. This helped me understand what the author was trying to say. One of the words I didn't know was "bellowed." I used the words "moose" and "loud" to guess the meaning. I think "bellow" means a loud, deep voice.
       The author left the book open-ended. I wonder what will happen to the little boy. Will he find a home like the one he had before? How did his mom die, and how long ago was that? Do you think there are homeless children at Robertson? 
       Overall, I enjoyed this book and I think it should be read to all children. We are fortunate to have beds to sleep in, and this book is a reminder of that.
