Yes!  Thanks to all the support from everyone that blogged our class.  Mrs. Allen's class was 1 of 6 winner's in our blog contest.  Because of all the support from across the world, and I truly mean across the world, we were picked to win a brand new Flip Mino camera to document our classroom experiences.
Bloggers and Tweeter's from Round Rock to New Zealand to Buenos Aires to Kuala Lumpur and back around, blogged or tweeted our class into the finals.  With around 500 responses and a feature in The Velvet Escape blog (written by Keith Jenkins in Amsterdam)   A Social Media Lesson in Geography, we caught the attention of everyone around campus and soon emails flew out crediting our class for taking our small contest and turning it into something more powerful. The students enjoyed the history and descriptions of the many different places as well as the brief salutations in the native tongue.
Special thanks goes out to Sheila Scarborough and Alisha Austin for passing our blog along to their MANY friends and family.
My students soon became more passionate about their writing once they found out how far it could take them around the world.  So, we thank everyone who sent us a blog or tweet and we hope to hear from you again throughout the year.

Thank ya'll(Texan talk for you all),  2009-12-17160844.wmv

We have had so many hits on the other blog that I am having to add another.  Keep the blogs coming! We are at  about 200 and I have to catch up to Mrs. Price, she has about 500.  However, I would guess her blog's haven't met as many amazing bloggers as my class blog has.
Yesterday Mrs. Austin surprised our class with a better world map so that we could continue charting our blogs around the world.

For the 51 Bloggers that blogged us on this page I cannot approve the blogs...the system will not let me because there are too many blogs on this one.  So I have made an addition blog above to accomidate more blogs for us.  Happy blogging and thanks to everyone around the world for helping us out.

I hope everyone is ready to have fun in 4th grade.  I'm so excited to see all my new students.  I've had a great summer and I'm not ready for it to end.  My family and I spent a lot of time in the pool because of the triple digit temperatures and I will miss my special time with my family.  However, all good things must come to an end so we can make way for more good things in our lives. For me that would be the start of a new school year.  It's always so much fun to get all those new clothes and school supplies.   I  have a weakness for new school supplies. Anyway, I can't wait to get to know all my new students.  This is going to be a great year full of new experiences for us all.  Can't wait to see you!!!

Do you remember learning how to ride a bike for the first time?  Well I don't, that's probably because it's been 30 years, but I do remember teaching my own kids.  My daughters learned so quickly, it seemed like I held the bike for them and they took off.  Yet Tucker, my son ,seems to be having a harder time.  He picks up everything else so quickly and with ease, like sports and words you shouldn't say in front of others.   It perplexes me that he's having a hard time with this new skill.  Of course, there are so many parts to riding a bike like balance, concentration, and strength.  It kind of sounds like parenting and teaching.  As a parent and teacher you want to make sure that your children have all three.  Some days are harder than others but in the end you want to make sure your children are focused on their education so that they will strengthen their minds and continue to learn new things one bike ride at a time.  However,  we can't forget that it takes the parent and teacher behind the student helping by holding them up to start, encouraging them to succeed, and picking them up when they fall.
Keep encouraging your students to succeed and do their best. ~Holly Allen
