Art Club is underway with our annual Service-Learning project.  We are going to visit the Round Rock Area Serving Center on Saturday, February 20 at 9:00am.  If you can come, please let me or Ms. Almaraz know.  You will need to come with a parent, guardian, or with a friend's parent if you are carpooling.  This will be a research day - we will be getting a tour of the facility, taking pictures, and writing notes about what we see and learn about the center.  Go UHE ART CLUB!

Happy New Year UHE Artists!  So many fun things going on right now in Art.  Fifth grade is starting a cartooning unit along with their photography unit and continuing to work on their e-portfolios.  Third and fourth grades are continuing with the Clay unit.  Kinder is starting to work on the Indian Paintbrush story and artwork.  First and second grades are starting printmaking.

Art Club! Ms. Almaraz and I are having so much fun with Art Club this year.  We are starting the annual Service-Learning project in January.  The art club students are going to be learning about and making art for the Round Rock Area Service Center, a local nonprofit organization that has gardens, a food bank, organizes coats for kids, and offers many other other vital services for Round Rock's community.

The clay artwork from last week's club meeting had not dried and turned into greenware in time to be fired.  So, I gave the club kids another week to work with wet clay.  They loved it and their work is evolving each time they come and work.  Don't get me wrong, although we are working hard, we are having fun and some interesting conversations are sparked in the studio during these times! I love working with art club!

Everyday a student will do something new and different in my art studio - I am constantly learning from all of them.  This week, I am teaching the color wheel to kinder and first grades.  I am remembering when I learned that when mixed together red and blue made purple.  That was amazing to me!  Truly, a pivotal point in my creative development.  I am privileged that my students share their own pivotal moments with me!

All of my classes have been working so hard on completing their Cherished Artwork for the annual fundraiser.  I am so pleased with their creations!  I hope that this will give them lots of good ideas for winter holiday gifts.

Amy and I have decided to break the big group into two small groups for studio time. There is just no way we will fit comfortably in one room.  I love the interest in art club this year!  We are staring with a clay project.  Today, we will review the procedures and some techniques. I can't wait to get muddy!
