This week we will be celebrating Dr. Suess' Birthday all week long. Join in the fun. The library will decorated with birthday balloons and all sorts of Dr. Seuss characters. Each day we will be giving away prizes to some lucky classes. We have treats, bookmarks, stickers and some cool photo opportunities with some fun props.
Here are the dress-up days planned for this week.
Monday: Sneetch Day - Wear Yellow (a green star on "thars" is optional)
Tuesday: Bartholomew Cubbins Day - Hat Day
Wednesday: Horton Hears a Who Day - Wear Grey
Thursday: Thing 1 and Thing 2 Day - Wear Red and Blue
Friday: The Cat in the Hat Day - Wear Red and White
Be sure to visit the Read Across America Map outside the LMC doors. We are trying to make connections from books to every US state. I already made one to MN for Author Jacqueline West who will be visiting our school very soon (March 8th)! I am currently reading the 2012 Newbery winner, Dead End in Norvelt, which takes place in Pennsylvania. I'll have to add that one. What are you reading? What is your class reading? Can you make a connection?

Here is something to try when you have a lot of time on your hands. I'm thinking a snow day, or when you are between games at a ball tournament, or even while watching T.V. !  I guess I would also say, use some quality earbuds, this is a lot of work to fancy up a dollar store pair!

Here is a link to the best instructions I could find. It has good photos and a video, too. Keep in mind that it someone's personal blog and not a school or teacher website.

Sara Pennypacker is a great author. I really like the Clementine Series, but I also love the Stuart books. The first book Stuart's Cape is available on playaway and the second book Stuart Goes to School is available as a chapter book (F Pen). I just ordered The Amazing World of Stuart which is a double issue of the two Stuart stories. Hooray! I have been trying to find the Stuart's Cape book for a long time, but it has been out of print. I'm glad to have found this double issue.
Stuart is an odd kid who makes himself a magical cape out of 100 old neckties. Once he puts on his cape his adventures begin!
