Each grade level is expected to complete at least one research project each
year. The freshman project involves research in mythology, the sophomore
project requires researching a career, college or consumer affair. Juniors
research a period in United States History in connection to an American
author, and seniors do a literary analysis and critical study of a chosen
author or work. The California Language Arts Standards are addressed in
each step of the research process. To access those standards, go to:

In addition to the above required research projects, all freshmen are
expected to complete a 2-3 day library orientation. They will learn how to
access and locate books using our automated card catalog, be able to login
to our district network and access the internet, know how to use our
academic online database subscriptions and be able to evaluate quality,
authoritative, reliable information to use in all their research projects.
Students will also learn how to send articles found in our subscriptions via
email.
Research projects in other subject areas are a result of teacher/teacher
librarian collaboration in order to address current standards, provide
project based assignments to help students develop critical thinking and
problem solving skills.
