I grew up in Orange County and moved to San Diego County seven years ago
with my husband Rod, who teaches 4th grade at Calavera Hills Elementary. We
have been married eleven years and over that time have adopted three
beautiful children, Zander 8, Carleigh 4, and Siena 3. We have one dog, and
a tortoise. But you never know when a new critter will join our family!
I attended CSU Fullerton where I received my Bachelors in Liberal Studies
and then continued on to receive my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I
have since attended University of San Diego where I have earned 60 units in
teacher related courses. I've attended many coferences to better my
teaching practices and most recently finished a conference with USC that
focused on implementing strategies for Gifted and Talented students. I
believe that being a life long learner is important to keeping up with the
latest practices and being the best teacher that I can be.
This is my tenth year teaching, which has included teaching kindergarten
and first grade summer school, and second, third, fourth, and fifth grade
during the regular school year. I began my career in Saddleback Unified
School District while living in Orange County, moved to Fallbrook School
District to be closer to home, and then was fortunate enough to be hired
with Carlsbad Unified in 2006. This is my fourth year teaching fifth grade
here at Aviara Oaks. The past tthree years have been quite memorable and I
look forward to another wonderful year. The Aviara community is one that
has welcomed and supported me as a teacher and I am very grateful for that.
I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year and am
hopeful that this will be an exciting and rewarding year for both you and
your child.
I believe that it is important to teach with a supportive staff that
focuses on the academic, social, and personal growth of its students, and
where my talents as an educator contribute to both the working atmosphere of
my fellow colleagues, while creating a rich learning environment for both me
and my students. I will commit unconditionally to the needs of every
student—offering inspiration and direction while utilizing the necessary
tools to accompany me in the learning process. I believe a safe, friendly
environment is essential to achieve the trust of each student—a trust that
ultimately develops into a committed relationship filled with honesty, self
awareness, and personal confidence.
I know I can make a difference by further developing an understanding of
what is expected of me—not only from the curriculum perspective, but from
the child’s point-of-view as well. Making connections through culture,
friendships, and personal interests, I believe, can further develop a sense
of value essential for a sound relationship between my students and me. I
strongly believe in an individual relationship with each and every student.
Showing empathy and commitment toward each child is extremely important in
building a trustworthy allegiance. Students must remain the primary focus
of the educational system—and with proper guidance from staff members,
students can and will be triumphant.
In order to entrust in the learning process, children need structure and
guidance with the opportunity to be free-thinkers. They need to know the
teacher cares and believes they can be successful regardless of what
challenges they may face. But most importantly, children need to be
recognized. I believe I can make a difference simply by acknowledging a
child for who they are, not for what they can do. My philosophy is
simple, “Capture the imagination of a child, guide them through their
thoughts, and let them be the individual they are looking for.”
