Dear Friends,
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. Enjoy your week off and rest and renew. Happy Thanksgiving!
The second trimester of school has began. Of course, it will be more intense than the first trimester, as we have many new concepts to learn. Expect a LITTLE more homework, and certainly more challenging material. The second and third trimester of fifth grade prepare the students for middle school. I have all the faith in the world that this group of students will accept the challenge well. It is, however, very important that they stay on top of their work. I know they will all be very successful.
Our Hot Cocoa Sales are going well. The first group of students who sold did very well. It is fun for them, plus a learning experience. They are learning not only that selling is a lot of work, but the money part of selling also takes time and effort. In the Computer Lab, Mrs. Ward is teaching the students how to use Excel to create records of expenses. It is fun to watch the students learn that they have to pay their bills before they see a profit!
The month of December is full of activities for our fifth graders. We go to Glide, to serve breakfast on December 8.; Hot Cocoa Sales are on December 2 and 9; The Fifth Grade Holiday Breakfast is on December 16; we perform 2 Sign-A-Long performances on December 17 and 18; and we make Holiday Candy Trains on December 17. The students bring home their Holiday Candy Trains on the 17th. If you can, please try to pick your child up from school that day as the trains are large and difficult for the students to carry home. Thanks.
Information about our trip to Glide will come home after the Thanksgiving Break. Please try to make the Parent Performance of the Sign-A-Long. I sent flyers home with information about the performance this week.
Again, have a wonderful holiday.
Mrs. Kehoe
