Character Information : Grandfather - begins his journey as a young man, is by himselfTHIS IS THE ONLY TYPE OF POST-IT STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO EXPAND ON.
Wow Moment : he doesn't see land for 3 weeks pg. 64As a young man, the grandfather character leaves Japan to travel to the United States. He is on a ship and does not see land for three weeks. This must have been scary for him. He didn't know anyone on the ship and if something happened there was no way to get help.
Question: Why would he leave Japan? pg 63Why would he leave his family and friends for a place that he'd never been? I guess he wanted to explore new places.
Character Feeling : Grandfather-lonely pg. 66Once grandfather made his way to California eventhough he loved the mountains and the ocean, he missed his family and friends and was lonely. He didn't speak the language or have any friends. I would have been lonely too!
Character Trait : Grandfather- adventurous pg. 63Grandfather decided to leave his homeland for a place that he'd never been. He enjoyed traveling all around the United States learning the language and customes. He ended up staying in Califnia.
Prediction : I think that grandfather will go back to California pg. 70He doesn't end of returning to California because he dies before he can.
Problem 1 : He misses the place where he's not at. pg.64Whenever grandfather is in California he misses Japan, and when he's in Japan he misses California.
Solution 1: He travels back and forth between the locations. pg 62Grandfather travels a lot between the two places. He loves them both for the different things they offer. In California he enjoys the mountains and ocean, in Japan is his famiy and many of his friends.
Author's Message: take new chancesIn the book Grandfather takes many chances. He decides to travel to a new land eventhough he doesn't know the language or customes. He takes this chance and it turns out to be a great thing. He loves California and all that if has to offer.
Text to Text: reminds me of Possum MagicIn both stories the main character travels around the world. In Grandfather's Jouney grandfather travels around the world to visit new place. In Possum Magic Hush travels around the world to find a food that will make her reappear.
