HOMEWORK IS DUE FRIDAY
Please check that your child's homework is completed BEFORE they turn it in on
Friday. Completed homework consists of the cover pages filled out completely
and signed by a parent, journal with colored picture and parent response,
skill page, and math pages. Homework is checked and recorded. Any missing item
will result in an incomplete packet. Homework is designed to be a partnership
between parent and child. You should be reviewing your child's homework with
them on a daily basis.
If you have any further questions on homework, please contact me.
I have received a few questions on the math flashcards. The flashcards should
be addition and subtraction. The problems should not use numbers higher than
20. At this point in the year, it is appropriate to only be practicing the
addition to 10. I will let you know on the homework sheet when to increase the
numbers or move on to subtraction.
HOMEWORK UPDATE - NOVEMBER 2, 2009
There are many new and changed portions of the homework this week. Please
note the following:
The journal sentence amount has increased. Students should now be writing 3-4
complete sentences in their journal. Parents need to take the time to read
the journal with their child and correct spelling and punctuation errors.
Sentences should be detailed and on one topic. Parents should respond to
their child's journal with a sentence or two.
Spelling has started this week. The weekly spelling list will always be
attached to the front of the homework packet. This week there is a blue
spelling information sheet attached to the packet. Please take this sheet and
keep it somewhere special for future weekly reference. Students need to pick
two activities off the spelling activity list to complete at home. If they
can be turned in, please turn them in with the homework. There are some
activities that can't be turned in (writing words on the sidewalk in chalk)
and that is fine. The two activities that your child selects must be writing
on the cover of the homework page. Please do not write the number of the
activity (for example #3) instead write the activity (words on the computer).
In addition to the 8 spelling words, I always have 4 or 5 bonus words. I
encourage all students to try these words, but they will not be counted or
graded.
Reading- By now your child should be reading 15 minutes nightly to an adult
or older sibling. Please make sure your child is reading books that are
appropriate for their level. If there are 5 or more words on a page that your
child is having a difficult time sounding out, please choose another book.
* As always, if you have any questions regarding homework, please email me.
