1 CJSF Scholarships By Douglas Ferman, CJSF Advisor Our motto as a statewide organization is “Scholarship for Service”. When I started the Canyon CJSF chapter a number of years ago, my hope was to encourage talented young people to assist others in our community. CJSF students have more than risen to this challenge! My other dream was to prepare students for college and teach them how to pay for it! Active CJSF students have an opportunity to apply for five separate scholarships. Three of these scholarships are available to Canyon students only—we are the only chapter in the entire state that offers these opportunities. The three Canyon scholarships are now open to all active CJSF students. To be considered an active member, students must complete their four hours of community service each month and record the hours on their monthly log. There is a CJSF student scholarship for 8th graders and a separate one for 7th graders. The winners will receive a check of $300. In addition, there is a “Writing Scholarship” which is open to both 7th and 8th graders. The winner will receive a check for $200. The applications are available on the “Wall of Forms” by the Counseling Office or by asking Mr. Ferman. Questions? Please contact Mr. Ferman, 538.8833 x. 6133 or dferman@cv.k12.ca.us We plan to offer these scholarships next year, though the amount may vary from year to year.
