Auto Dial Announcements

May 20, 2013
Parents/Guardians
On April 23 and May 7, I notified you regarding creating an ABI Aeries parent
portal account. To date,
our records show you still have not set up an account. Your student may have
already set up an account
but it is a student account and not a parent account. It is vital for you to
set up a parent account in order
to re-enroll your student for the next school year. We ask that you create an
account as soon as
possible. Please create a parent account by going to the
https://cvportal.cv.k12.ca.us/abinet or the
Canyon website at http://www.canyon.cv.k12.ca.us and select parent portal. If
you do not have access to
a computer you are welcome to go to the Castro Valley library or the Canyon
library and we can assist
you.

I am requesting that you speak with you student about safety on and around
campus. My concerns are

Use crosswalks safely
Do not walk in street -stay on sidewalks
Ride bikes safely wearing helmets at all times

I have heard from several parents today about students riding their backs very
fast down our back hill weaving in and out of cars. Today one of the riders
hit the back of a car- braking the car tail light- and crashing off their bike
into a ditch. The driver was very shaken and when she got out to ask the
student if he was ok the student yes yes riding away darting between cars and
crossing Cull Canyon Road in an unsafe manner.

Students that demonstrate this reckless behavior will not be allowed to bring
their bikes on campus.

If you know your child rides their bike please ask them about this incident
and other unsafe includes of bike riders on campus. If you know who the
reckless bike riders are please let us know

Thank you

We currently cannot receive incoming phone calls to Canyon. ATT is working on
the problem.

At about 1:15 pm today we lost power to the school. Several power lines on
Crow Canyon road came down and ignited small fires between Cull Canyon Road
and Cull Canyon Reservoir. We experienced some smoke on campus and We had the
students remain in their 6th period classes. PE classes moved to the football
field to avoid the smoke. CHP responded to assist with traffic and the
Sheriff's department responded to assist us.
I appreciate how everyone adjusted to picking up students at the end of the day
At this time the campus is still without power and PGE feels it will be
several hours before power is restored.
We have decided to cancel our scheduled PTA meeting for this evening
I will contact you when we have determined a new date for our first PTA meeting
Again the PTA meeting for this evening is canceled.

August 28, 2012
Canyon Community
We have had two great days of school so far- thank you for all you have done
to prepare your child for this year.
Several reminders
When driving on campus drive slowly and cautiously
Only park in designated areas - never in the red zones.
Walking up or down the fire road from Crow Canyon Road is a good alternative
to driving on campus. If you are picking up your student on Cull Canyon Road
have them use the cross walk and do not park in no parking zones

We have been asked by the owners of Cafe Rumi on Center Street to not have our
students hang out there after school. We again today had rude behavior
towards the workers of Cafe Rumi by middle school students. Please advise your
students to avoid this area and do use this as a pick up area for your child.

I look forward to seeing you at back to school night- plan to ride the bus and
avoid the traffic and limited parking on campus.

August 22, 2012

Hello Canyon Community!

We’re hoping you enjoyed your summer break. We are calling with a fun,
international opportunity for you. Last year, we hosted 37 students from the
15th Middle School in Hangzhou, China. This fall, another group of students
will visit Canyon. These students will stay with Canyon families for 4 nights
from October 2nd through October 6th.

ALL THE GIRLS HAVE ALREADY BEEN PLACED, BUT if you are willing to host two
BOYS during their stay in Castro Valley, please contact Assistant Principal,
Annie Flores-Aikey at
(510) 538-8833 extension 6006. Students will spend 2 ½ days attending classes
with their host family’s child. These students have taken English classes in
China and are here to experience American culture and to practice their English.

We think this international experience will continue to be rewarding for our
Canyon community and for our Chinese visitors. We look forward to your
family’s participation!
