First Grade Holidays and Parties

HEALTH AND WELLNESS - taken from our school website (www.hopehawks.com)
In anticipation of new administrative regulations for our new Health and
Wellness Policy, there are a few changes you need to consider. Education
Code only allows for two classroom parties with food for the entire year.
As a result of the limitation, teachers will not be able to host birthday
party celebrations with food. If you want to recognize your students
birthday throughout the year, please speak with his/her teacher directly
about appropriate alternatives for the classroom. Teachers will not be able
to accept items dropped off without prior permission. Thank you for helping
to promote healthy and positive environment for our students. Healthy
bodies = Healthy minds.

The day before Winter recess we will have a special craft and end of the day
nutritious food item, and after lunch on the last day of school we will have
a special treat while the children collect autographs from their classmates.

The following are guidelines the first grade teachers put together to help
ensure that we are all on the same wavelength this year. We strive to give
all first grades, regardless of their room number, similar experiences at
special times of year.

The days we celebrate with a small activity are:

Johnny Appleseed's birthday - a special graphing math
         activity

Halloween - a special math measurement activity

The Thursday before winter break - a special art activity

Valentines Day - a special math graphing activity and the children
         will exchange Valentines

St. Patrick's Day - a special math graphing activity

The Thursday before Spring recess - a fun activity

End of the year activities - The last Tuesday of the year, we will have our
First Grade picnic. We will enjoy our lunch together and then rotate through
organized games/activities by class. Each room parent is responsible
for a 20 minute activity that all classes will rotate through. The children
will enjoy the playground equipment or take part in face painting, nail
painting or getting a temporary tatoo. Before the end of the day the
children will enjoy a popsicle.

More details will follow about this event later in the year.

FIRST GRADE ROOM PARENTS - We meet as a grade level each week to plan and
share ideas/materials. With the teaming we do for reading, plus other group
activities, we feel that all the first graders belong to each of us. Please
plan and work together as a collaborative team so that our holiday parties
and celebrations are the same, or as close to the same, as possible. We
purchase special seasonal supplies as a team, and run grade level sets of
things to save time and to work smarter, not harder. We suggest that you as
a collaborative group purchase necessary items for the whole grade level.
That way youre not all going out to buy the same items separately. Its
more cost and time efficient. We suggest that a head room parent be chosen,
oversee and divide up the responsibilities for the year. You will be
reimbursed $40 (per class) from the PTA for your expenses. KEEP YOUR
ORIGINAL RECEIPTS and submit them to your child's teacher. Thanks!

Thank you for volunteering to be a room parent. We appreciate all that
you will be doing for our children this year.

Have a great day and WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE!
