Principal's Message

Dear Caryn Families,
Our school year is in full force, and I am proud of our staff and community as all are working diligently in support of student success!
As we continue our strides through the first trimester we have much to celebrate! Our PTA has raised several thousand dollars through our fall fundraiser, which will be used to further support students in the classroom. Thank you PTA for supporting Caryn’s third annual Fall Festival, managing the Walking Program, as well as the many other countless things you do for our school. We are so fortunate to have a PTA that goes above and beyond in support of student success!
On another note, I am pleased to announce the implementation of several great after school programs at Caryn. They include Machine Makers, Lego Robotics, Comic Creators, and Art Appreciation. Additionally, we are offering a school intramural PE program on Mondays throughout the year. We are just wrapping up the first session of intramural basketball. Please look for further information coming home regarding each of our exciting opportunities for students.
Also exciting, is our new Watch D.O.G.S. program. Students love seeing their dad/guardian on campus serving their school as a volunteer. What a proud moment for all our supportive fathers doing what they can to support their child’s academic success! Thank you dads who have volunteered thus far, and we know there are many more Watch D.O.G.S. waiting for their day at school!
Finally, our staff once again brought to the 2016-2017 school year an intervention plan known as Universal Access time. Students are leveled into flexible groups where teachers design instruction based on a child’s academic needs, and the site has additional adult support push-in to lower the student to adult ratio. Leveled groups meet a few times per week, 90 minutes, focusing on intense instruction or offering enrichment opportunities for children. This coupled with the support of our newly adopted English language Arts program, Wonders, will allow teachers and students to work with curriculum that will not only challenge and enrich, but will provide instruction to support areas of student need. We are thrilled to be able to offer such a systematic and explicit support structure during a child’s academic day!
In close, I thank you for your continued support of our school! It is my goal to work with students, staff and families, striving for academic excellence in all we do!
Best Wishes,
Dino Tavolazzi
Principal

Common Core State Standards (CCSS). ESD is implementing elements of the standards including the assessments.
