Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

As this busy time of the year approaches, please take the time to enjoy the holidays with your child (ren).  Think back and remember what made this time of year fun and exciting when you were young, then share with your child your own memories of the holidays.  It is the special traditions that we create as a family that will hold a special place in your child’s heart.  I ‘m just throwing out some ideas that might sound fun or spark an idea for you: walking and looking at the lights around the neighborhood, visiting Candy Cane Lane (Acacia, off of California) Opening Night is coming soon, reading stories, baking cookies, helping the needy, going caroling, neighborhood get togethers, etc…  I hope you enjoy and treasure these years, as we all know, time passes all too quickly!  Don’t forget to get the video camera ready and then be sure to use it.

We are practicing our songs for the Holiday Program, the children sound beautiful.  I hope you are able to attend the performance Friday, 12- 18.  All Kindergarten and TEDDE students will be singing.  The program will start promptly at 8:30.  If possible, please have your child in school early – 8:15 so we can get hats on and over to the cafeteria for 8:30. All students are Early Birds on the 18th, 8:20 – 12:45.  Family and Friends are welcome to attend to the program, it is in the Cafeteria, and come early for the best seats.

The BOOK FAIRE is coming to town.  I went to check it out and there are a lot of GREAT books!!  Our class will be visiting the book fair next Wednesday.  If you would like your child to purchase something when we visit, please send money with them in a zip-lock baggie ( so I can send any change home).  If you have a particular book you want them to purchase, please write the name of the book on the outside of the envelope along with their name.  If they can buy whatever book they want, on the outside of the envelope write their name, the amount of money enclosed in the envelope, and the words FREE CHOICE.  FYI, I do not let kids buy toys at the book fair.  The Fair will also be open for you to attend with or without your child, please check the Cougar News for times, or stop by the cafeteria.

In keeping with the spirit of giving, we are collecting toys for children in need.  I am hoping to share with the children the importance of helping others and the joy that one receives when they give without expecting something in return.  We will be donating the toys brought in to the 1736 Family Crisis Center, based here in the South Bay.  This organization helps families and individuals that need extra help and support.  Realizing that these are challenging economic times, if your family is able to donate a small toy, under $10, I will be sure that it gets to the 1736 Center.  A green sheet of paper came home on Wednesday with more information.

We will be having an afternoon work session – making Gingerbread Houses.  We would love it if you could join us!  Please check and see if you will be available to help on the 17 th starting at 2:00.  If you are able to help out, please let me know.  We need at least 5 parents. Thanks!!

School is in session until 12-18.  If you are not going to be here any part of that last week, please let me know so I have the gift your child is making for you ready to go home.

Have a great weekend!

Boost Your School Campaign has just started. The money raised goes to the El Segundo Education Foundation, which in turn supports the schools in our district. At Center Street, we would not have our wonderful MUSIC, PE, OR READING programs without the Ed. Foundation! As a bonus, if we have 50% of our CSS families join with a donation of $100, our school site will also receive $3,500. As the economy is posing many challenges, this may be too much for your family to contribute, so we may need to think outside the box. One idea could be to pool your funds together with a another family or two.  Chevron has graciously offered to match funds up to $75,000. The BOOST CAMPAIGN will have a huge impact on ESUSD educational programs!
