Homework

Welcome to the Homework section of my website for the 2008-2009 school 
year.  The Homework section is designed to help both students and parents be 
consistently aware of the daily homework assignments.  This year Cherry 
Chase 
students were given a daily homework assignment book to help them keep track 
of their homework.  In the event that students forget to take home the 
homework assignment book, my website can be a useful back-up for them.  
Please 
be sure to write your signature in the assignment book daily so that I know 
you are aware that your child has successfully completed the homework. 
Homework usually will not be given on Fridays.

WEEK OF SEPT. 1st - 5th
Mon., Sept. 1
NO SCHOOL (LABOR DAY)

Tues., Sept. 2
Lang. Arts - Today your child was assigned a bright purple folder 
entitled "Reading Logs & Monthly Book Reports".  The folder is designed to 
help your child keep track of his/her daily pleasure reading selections.  An 
introductory letter is included which clearly specifies the work your child 
will be responsible for completing at home.  Please help your child find a 
safe place to keep the folder until it is due to be turned in (the 1st day 
of 
each month).  The required reading time is 20 minutes daily.

Spelling - Study spelling words that are connected to the Unit 1 story 
entitled "Gloria Who Might Be My Friend". The spelling words are listed 
under 
the Spelling Words heading, or they can be found in your child's daily 
student planner book.

Math - We have finished Topic 1 on Place Value.  Today, your child was given 
a Topic 1 Form A Test to complete for math homework.  The Form A Test will 
be used as a practice test.  Please revuew the test with your child to be 
sure he/she understands the math curriculum that was taught for Topic 1.  
Tomorrow a Topic 1 Free Response test will be given in class to assess your 
child's knowledge of the math curriculum.

             Your child's next book report is to create a book jacket.  
Today, I passed out white construction paper for this book report.  Please 
be sure to divide the book jacket into 5 sections.  Information about the 
book repiort is located in the Reading Log Book for October.

entitled "City Critter"

Math - Math Homework Workbook; pgs. 41-46 (Some of these pgs. were completed 
in class already)

Science - Work on Planet Report; Today, during our visit to the Computer 
Lab, the students used the Internet to find information about their assigned 
planets.  A Planet Report packet was discussed and passed out for students 
to use as a guideline for the upcoming Planet Reports which are due November 
14th.  The majority of this project will be worked on at home as Science 
homework.  I encourage parents to offer assistance and guidance to your 
children, but be advised that this project is a student project and not a 
parent project.

Tues., October 21st

Lang. Arts - READING LOG (20 Min.)
             Creative Writing Assign.- My Favorite Thing"  Today's creative 
writing assignment was for students to create a Sensory Web list using the 
favorite thing they placed in their brown paper bags.  Their task tonight is 
to develop a strongly written paragraph describing their favorite thing.  
This is considered a practice lesson to prepare them for the Reading Lions 
creative writing test whereby they will be asked to write a story describing 
something.  I will be sharing the Reading Lions writing test with you during 
the P/T Conference.
