Sections of Financial Accounting – Fall Semester 2009

·      Section 80126 Monday and Wednesday 6:10-8:00pm Indian Valley College Ohlone 158

·      Section 80124 Saturday 9:10 – 1:00pm Kentfield Business Center (BC) 105

·      All students enrolled in either section are welcome to attend class meetings of either of the above sections at any time.  Attendance strongly encouraged but not mandatory

 

Grading:  Grading is based on work and quizzes below.  There is no midterm or final exam. You are not required to do any assignment, but may choose how you want to earn your points.  Grading scale:

89.5 points and above = A, 79.5 points and above = B, 69.5 points and above = C, 59.5 points and above = D, below 59.5 points = F.  Late policy for classwork and homework (not quizzes) – no credit if turned in later than 2 weeks from the due date.  Exception: Chapters 14-15 work due by last day of regular class.

Chapter classwork – 15 chapters done in class in groups – 3% of grade (each)

45 points

Homework – 8 problems – 1.25% of grade (each) – much of this is done in class in groups when time allows

10 points

Online quizzes done at home (not timed, usually available to take for 2 weeks, true/false, multiple choice 18 – 27 questions each)

 

         6 online quizzes – 6% of grade (each)

36 points

         1 online quiz – 9% of grade (covering Chapters 11-13)

  9 points

Total

100 points or 100%

In-class, extra-credit exam (closed-book, closed note) –offered in last two weeks of class at IVC and KFLD– all students may take exam at either location

  20 points extra

     (The above exam is offered to help you make up points if you miss any of the regular assignments or quizzes above)

 

 

Online quiz deadlines – These quizzes are on the website for 2 weeks for you to take. Therefore there are no extensions to these hard deadlines.

  • Chapters 1-2 Wednesday, Sept. 9, midnight
  • Chapters 3-4 Wednesday, Sept. 23, midnight
  • Chapters 5-6 Wednesday, Oct. 7, midnight
  • Chapters 7-8 Wednesday, Oct. 21, midnight
  • Chapters 9-10 Wednesday, Nov. 4, midnight
  • Chapters 11-13 Wednesday, Nov. 18, midnight
  • Chapters 14-15 Wednesday, Dec. 9, midnight

 

You should bring to each class: 

  • pencils (mechanical or otherwise) with good erasers and a simple calculator
  • textbook**
  • Excel working papers and visual aids for each chapter that you printed out for class from the class website 
  • Notebook and 3 folders (cheap, soft-cover, without rings) to turn in work.

**Textbook:   Financial Accounting 6th edition, Weygandt Kimmel and Kieso, Wiley & Sons Publishers ISBN 978-0-470-12884-8.  5th or ISV editions are OK but classwork and homework problems differ from 6th edition. However, I have provided 6th edition classwork and homework problems on class website.
