Financial Acctg Business 112 - Spring Semester 2013:

Section 11092 - Mon and Wed - 6:10-8:00pm - Indian Valley College - Bldg 27, Rm 116

Section 11080 - Sat - 9:10am - 1:00pm - Kentfield -FH (Fusselman Hall) 110

All students enrolled in either section are welcome to attend class meetings of either of the above sections at any time. Enroll in the section you are most likely to attend.  Whichever class you enroll in, you are responsible for following that section's due dates/grace period end dates. Attendance is strongly encouraged but not mandatory.  It is unlikely that you will do well on the class assignments unless you attend class.

Grading: Grading is based on work and quizzes below. There is no midterm or final exam. You are not required to do any assignment, but may choose what you want from the coursework and quizzes to earn your points. 

Most questions you might have are listed on the FAQ and FAQ2 sections of class website.  Please read it to learn class policies, student responsibilities, work standards, delivery methods, and grading options.

Grading scale:

89.5 points and above = A, 79.5 points and above = B, 69.5 points and above = C, 59.5 points and above = D, below 59.5 points = F.

Late policy:  

   - Online Quizzes' Due Dates (and times) listed on the syllabus - no credit after date/time listed

   - Enron Paper Due Date (and time) listed on the syllabus - no credit after date/time listed.  

   - Chapter Classwork Due Dates (and times) listed on the syllabus.  If you need additional time to complete Chapter Classwork, there is an extension of time ("Grace Period") as shown on the syllabus under "Grace Period Ends."  There is no credit for any Chapter Classwork turned in after the grace period ends.

 Coursework for BUS 112:

Chapter class work - 13 chapters (@5pts each) done in class in groups - 65% of grade

65 points

Chapter class work - 1 chapter (@3pts ) done in class in groups  - 3% of grade

3 points

7 Online quizzes done at home (@ 4pts each -not timed, usually available to take for 2 weeks, true/false, multiple choice - 16 questions each)- 28% of grade 

28 points

1 short paper (2 pages) on ethics using movie presentation: "Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room" - 4.0% of grade

100 points or 100%

In-class, extra-credit exam (closed-book, closed note) -offered in last two weeks of class at IVC and KFLD- all students may take exam at either location

20 points extra

(The above exam is offered to help you make up points if you miss any of the regular assignments or quizzes above)

Online quiz deadlines - Each of these quizzes are on the website for 1-2 weeks for you to take. It is not a timed test, and can be taken anytime during those weeks. There are no extensions to these hard deadlines, below.

Chapters 5-6 Wednesday, 03-13-13, midnight

Chapters 7-8 Wednesday, 03-27-13, midnight

Chapters 9-10 Wednesday, 04-17-13, midnight

Chapters 11-12 Wednesday, 04-24-13, midnight

Chapters 13-14 Wednesday, 05-08-13, midnight


You should bring to each class:

  -Pencils (mechanical or otherwise) with good erasers

  -Simple calculator

  -Textbook**

  -Working papers and Visuals for each chapter that you printed out for class from the class website

  -Notebook and THREE folders (optional - cheap, soft-cover, without rings) to turn in work.  The folders help you identify your work among a big stack of papers.

**Textbook: Financial Accounting 8th edition, Weygandt Kimmel and Kieso, Wiley & Sons Publishers (ISBN 978-0-470-92938-4).  The 7th edition (ISBN 978-0-470-47715-1) is acceptable but not up-to-date.
