As soon as he opens his lips, he should rehearse the history of his own country." - Noah Webster, On the Education of Youth in America, 1788 Our 2010 Open House Project will be a combination technological, visual, and oral. It is called the American Patriots Wax Museum. Students will be doing a major research project on their choice of any historical American patriot. Phase 1: Technological - Each student will choose the historical person they want to learn about. A list of possible choices can be found on the links below. Once a choice is made, then students will begin their research. This can be a combination of the Internet, books from our school library, or books from the Visalia Public Library. After their research is completed, students are to prepare a PowerPoint or slideshow presentation on their American Patriot. This can be done at home or at school using the library computers or the classroom computers. Phase 2: Visual - Students are then to develop a display board of their patriot. This board should be able to stand alone on a table or a stand. It should represent the important elements of the life of the individual student's choice. Phase 3: Oral - Students are to develop a 2-3 minute speech about their patriot. This speech needs to be memorized. It will be presented the night of Open House in May 2010 as a part of our classroom presentation called the American Patriots Wax Museum. Yes, students will become their subject. As a part of the presentation, they will include their display board and themselves ready to share their memorized speech to anyone who stops by to inquire. It is highly suggested that students dress themselves in some type of costume to represent their subject. To see samples of what this might look like, please click on Jessica Cobb's site below.
