Dear Parents,

Homework for students this week will be language/math worksheets and reading 
for at least 20 mins/day.

LANGUAGE ARTS- Currently, we are focusing on the following:
 
Phonics/Phonemic Awareness:
   Separating(segmenting) and counting sounds in words

Vowel pairs: oa, ow; ai, ay; oo as in cook; oo as in cool
      
Reading  Strategies: 
   Problem-solving; sequence of events; monitor/clarify; fantasy/realism;
   question.

Reading Comprehension Skills:
   Making predictions; noting details; summarizing

Grammar:   
   Proper nouns for people, animals and things.
   
Vocabulary Words:
   Categorizing; friendship words; multiple-meaning words; city words;
   syllabication; house words.

MATH- Over the next couple of weeks, we're working on these concepts:
   
   Addition: Strategies (add doubles; doubles plus one; add with 10; 
             make a 10 to add; add three numbers)
   Subtraction: Strategies (use doubles to subtract; subtract from 13-20;
             choose the operation)
   Inverse Operation: Fact families; relate addition and subtraction; 
             different ways to subtract.

Vocabulary: addend; sum; difference; doubles; doubles pluse one;
             plus sign; equal sign.

******  SPECIAL NOTE regarding PRIVATE TUTORS:
The school district has just provided teachers with a list of teachers in the 
school district who are available for private tutoring.  If you are 
interested in a copy of the list, please email me and I'll make sure you get 
a copy.
