Homework

INFORMATION FOR NEXT YEAR'S ADVANCED BAND:

NEW INFORMATION!!  Please read carefully.  Contact me if you have questions.

The plan has changed for A Band placement.

1.  Auditions will take place the week of April 27 at lunch and after school.  Please come to the band 
room to sign up.

2.  Play:  concert C, F, B, Eb, Ab, Db major scales, one octave, with the arpeggio.

2.  Chromatic scale, one octave.

3.  All scales must be memorized.

4.  There will be sight reading.

5.  Alto and tenor saxophone players:  you need to pick up the packet that you will prepare for the 
audition.  It will be available on 3/20.  Your audition date will be on Wednesday, April 22 at lunch or 
after school.  Come to the band room to sign up.

6.  Mr. Storch will help with the percussion auditions that will be held on Monday, April 20.  You are 
required to play the same scales as stated above.  I will also hand out a snare part for you to play as 
well.  You will also have sight reading.

7.  Other considerations for A Band placement:  class participation, all class tests and performances; 
readiness to perform the advanced level standard.


Advanced Band

Scales:  concert C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab. Db, Gb; add G and D majors.

Technique book:  long tones; Key areas in concert Bb and C remain our focus.  Work for details, 
rhythmic accuracy, fluidity and ease of playing.  Add concert F major key area.

The Moss Chorales:  #5 

Incorporate concepts from class: ( tempo is 80); phrasing, balance, intonation, blend, shaping of 
phrases, proper breathing in phrasing, dynamics.

Festival Music:  Air for Band assignment:  mm=68.  Sub divide all parts to learn the inner rhythm and 
to stay in time.

Intermediate Band


Book 3:  p. 2 1-5; p. 4 11-14.

Scales:  C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db with the added arpeggios.  Work on chromatic scale independently.

Next playing test:  concert C, F with arpeggios; one octave, mm=80.

CMEA Band Festival music:

Childhood Hymn, by far the most difficult piece though it LOOKS easy, it is not.  Work on long tones 
in your warm up; tuning exercises.  Practice this piece mm=68.  Sub divide to eighth notes 
throughout to get the inner rhythm of the piece.  Be able to look up once per measure to stay with 
conductor.

Ancient Voices:  first part of the piece

Contempo:  first half of piece.

Combined rehearsal on March 12 from 2:48-4:30.


Sixth Grade Band

Method book 2:  practice and know pp. 2-7.

Time signatures:  cut time, 6/8 time.


Scales:  concert C, Bb, F, Eb, Ab majors back of book.

Accent/rhythms:  1-5

Accent/rests:  #1-3

Sheet music:  ChaCha Lite, And the Earth Moved, Streets/Madrid.

Beginning band

Method:  pp. 19-24

Scale:  learning concert Bb and F on page 36.

Review fundamentals of playing:  see board.

Sheet music:  Enchanted Village, Crater Lake.  More TBA.

Play test:  check the board.
