Announcements

CONSTITUTION NOTEBOOKS ARE DUE FRIDAY FEBRUARY 27TH !!!!!!
Late notebooks will not be accepted. If a student is going to be absent on the
due date they must either turn the notebook in ahead of time, or have a parent
turn it in on the due date. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE!!!!!!!

The first section of the notebook should contain all group/classwork assigned
prior to the due date  organized according to the instructions provided.

The second section of the notebook must contain all of the student's
individual materials.

These include but are not limited to 3 NEWSPAPER articles (dated after
December break)for each section of the notebook. They must also include a
summary of the article and a conclusion which shows how that article connects
to that particular section of the Constitution.
Sections include:
1. Legislative Branch
2. Executive Branch
3. Judicial Branch
4. The System of Checks and Balances
5. The Bill of Rights
As a portion of this assignment is on using primary sources for research, only
articles from hard copies of U.S. Newspapers may be used. We will review the
newspaper each day in class over the course of the project, and I will provide
copies of the newspaper on a rotating basis to those who are otherwise unable
to obtain one.

The notebook must also contain an original hand-drawn cover, original
hand-drawn charts on "How a Bill Becomes a Law" and the "System of Checks and
Balances". The individual work section must have original hand-drawn dividers
for each of the required sections. One additional article per section and one
additional chart may be included for extra credit or to help insure full
credit in the event of errors in student work. Other extra credit
opportunities are available as discussed in class.

WINTER BREAK EXTRA CREDIT

STUDENTS:
You may earn up to 25 extra credit points by reading and writing an in depth
book report on one of the following titles:

1. April Morning

2. My Brother Sam Is Dead

3. Johnny Tremain

Alternatively, students may do a research report on the life of Francis 
Marion
with a comparison of his life to that of Mel Gibson's character (Benjamin
Martin) in the film. "The Patriot". Care should be given to pointing out
historical similarities and inaccuracies while reviewing the film. The paper
should also include an evaluation as to whether the film was helpful in
fostering an understanding of this time period.

Please note all work on these projects is expected to be original student
created work. All writings should be in the student's own words and should 
not resemble any other existing writings.

All school policies regarding original student work will be enforced on this
project.
