Extra Credit

You are allowed 1 extra credit assignments a quarter (2 per semester).  You are eligible for extra 
credit if you have NOT missed any homework assignments, quizzes, runs, fitness activities  AND/OR 
have more than 2 non-suits on my class.  Any incomplete work has to be done before you can do 
extra credit assignments.   

Extra Credti Choices:

A) Website Research Paper (10 pts.)

1.  Go to the website, www.kidshealth.com and click on Teens

2.  Choose a any topic you want under the following categories:
   a.  Your Body
   b.  Your Mind
   c.  Food or Fitness 

3.  On a seperate piece of paper, type out answers to the following questions.  Include the questions.  
When you are done with this assignment, you should be able to fill up about a page.

   a. Which Category and Topic did you choose? (one sentence)
   b.  Why did you choose this particular topic among all the others? (use 2-3 sentences)
   c.  What are 3 new things that you learned by reading this article?  (use a sentence for each)
   d.  How will knowing this topic help you live a healthier life?  (3 sentences)
   e.  What is 1 very important piece of advice you will give someone after reading this article?  (one 
sentence)

B) Pedometer Extra Credit Project (you can only do this if you own or have access to a pedometer) (15 
points)
1.  Go to Extra Credit Make Up Assignment Page on my website
2.  Print out the Pedometer Log and follow the instructions
3.  YOU AND YOUR PARENTS NEED TO SIGN THE BOTTOM TO RECEIVE THE CREDIT

C) Go to my "Extra Credit/Make Up Handouts" link on my page.  Click on and complete the 
Resistance Bands assignment.  This assignment will be worth 10 pts.

D)  Go to my "Extra Credit/Make Up Handouts" line on my page.  Click on and complete the Medicine 
Ball/Stability Ball Assignment.  This assignment will be worth 10 pts.

E)  Motivational Fitness Poster- 10 pts. (8TH GRADERS ONLY)
As you know, the weight room has officially be opened to students and now we need to work on 
decorating it with motivational posters.  There are a ton of good motivational sayings/words of 
wisdom out there that are appropriate for the weight room.  A good example is one that most of you 
have heart, "NoPain, No Gain".  I don't want you to use that one.  

Parameters:
1. Use construction paper sizes 12"x18" or 18"x24", any color.
2.  Find a motivational saying appropriate for the weight room.  A simple google search can 
      more than likely produce a ton of results, OR, you can make up your own motivational 
      saying.
3.  Either use a cool computer font or your own drawing skills to write out the motivational 
     saying on the poster.
4.  Decorate the poster with drawings, images, etc.  Make is colorful, but not too distracting.
5.  Put your name, period and roll call on the BACK of the poster.

F)  Designing the perfect weight room workout-10 pts. (8TH GRADERS ONLY)
Spend some time on the internet, reading book sor magazines and put together the perfect 3 day 
weight room workout or circuit.  Each day should be different than the other two.  Each day should 
work different muscle groups.  At the end of the 3 days, every muscle group should be accounted 
for.  The workouts should be 30-45 minutes, realistic and appropriate for teenagers.  

You can describe the workout in a few paragraphs (one for each day), in a table or workout log, on a 
powerpoint presentation, or a poster.  Be creative and informative.  MAKE SURE THAT YOUR NAME, 
PERIOD AND ROLL CALL IS SOMEWHERE ON THE ASSIGNMENT WHERE I CAN EASILY FIND IT.  Good

G)  Creating a Mix CD- 5pts.  
  1.  Go to my "Extra Credit/Make Up Handouts"  and read the "Creating a Mix CD" Assignment.
  2.  Make sure the CD is in a plastic case when you hand it in.
  3.  THE ENTIRE CD HAS TO BE APPROPRIATE.  ANY INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE OR CONENT WILL
        RESULT IN YOUR BEING SENT TO THE OFFICE.
  4.  The idea is create a library of good workout music that we can use indoors and outdoors.
