The learning environment in the classroom is most effective when students
are respectful of each other. I want to create a safe environment where no
one hurts themselves or others, both emotionally and physically. A student’s
behavior should not interfere in the learning of others or keep the teacher
from teaching. The expectations of the sixth grade department at Cupertino
Middle school is that all sixth graders will be safe, be respectful, be
responsible, and be successful!
With these thoughts in mind, classroom norms are followed by the
students to create a positive and safe learning environment:
1. Treat and be kind to others respectfully.
2. Listen when others are speaking.
3. Help others and ask for help when you need it.
4. Be productive and prepared, and use your time wisely.
5. Be successful
If a student chooses to break any of the above agreements, he or she is
aware of the consequences. Most problems are handled in the classroom with a
verbal warning. Students who persist may miss brunch/part of lunch, receive
a trash duty or stay after school and write a letter to their parents.
Excessive or extreme behavior disruptions may result in the elimination
of certain privileges, such as fieldtrips and after school activities, a
phone call from the teacher, or a visit to the office.
Appropriate and responsible behavior is recognized and rewarded. I am a
strong believer in the power of verbal praise and encouragement.
