Dear Parents,

Welcome to Cupertino Middle School! As the new school year begins, we would
like to introduce ourselves. We have several years experience teaching sixth grade
students. Regardless of homeroom assignments, all students will have a similar sixth grade experience
and are considered by his or her teacher as one class with a team of teachers. We would like you to
know about a few things about our philosophy of teaching and education:
• We believe students deserve respect.
• We believe students should not be humiliated, hurt, or embarrassed.
• We believe a child’s self-esteem should be nurtured.
• We believe that part of our job is to help students continue to learn self-responsibility. Student
responsibility for completing and turning in homework is part of learning and an imperative life skill
for success in future schooling.
• We want our students to enjoy learning and we want to encourage our students to succeed.
• We believe modeling is a powerful way to affect a student’s learning.
• We have high expectations for conduct and for academic growth and performance.
• We believe a good learning experience is built on a cooperative effort between parents, students,
and teachers.
With your participation in and out of the classroom, we can look forward to a productive and creative
year together. Please feel free to contact us at (408) 245-0303.

Sincerely,

Eilis Stokes-Cerda
