Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What if I turn something in late?
I do not accept late work without penalty. When you turn it in late, you receive half credit. If you haven't turned it in within a week of the due date, you will receive a 0. Please talk with me if there are special circumstances that prevent you from finishing an assignment on time or if you are struggling with an assignment.Back to Top
Is there a special format for typing up assignments?
Yes. Please use 12 point, Times Roman font, double-spaced for all assignments, unless otherwise specified. All assignments should have your name, your core and the date in the upper right hand corner, unless otherwise specified.Back to Top
Can I do extra credit to raise my grade?
I do not offer much in the way of extra credit. It has been my experience that students who want to do extra credit assignments usually ask in the 9th week of the quarter when they realize the consequences of not having kept up with the work all quarter long. There is usually one opportunity for extra credit a quarter in each subject, usually worth 5-10 points.Back to Top
How much homework do you give?
The average homework load is 30 minutes a night on weekdays. I try not to give homework on the weekends as that is a good time to catch up if you are behind. Budgeting your time is a skill we work on in 7th grade; many homework assignments stretch over 2 or more days.Back to Top
What if I already read a book we're reading in class?
Sometimes, I will ask you not to spoil the plot for those who haven't read it. You will have the advantage of understanding the plot as we focus on character, theme, setting and literary techniques. The way we "read" a novel in class is different from the way you would read it on your own for pleasure. You will get something different out of reading the book in class.Back to Top
