This is my fourth year at Cupertino Middle School. I did my undergraduate work
at Penn State University, home of Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions, where I
majored in journalism and minored in European history. I hold a multiple
subjects credential for teaching K-8, plus single subject credentials in both English
and Social Science from San Jose State University. Previously I worked in the newspaper
industry, including 17 years at the San Francisco Chronicle. I grew up in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, home of the Super Bowl champion Steelers, and moved
to Palo Alto in 1985. My husband, a Stanford engineering professor, and I
have two daughters who are in high school. I've had the chance to live in Italy three times
and really enjoy incorporating my experiences into teaching about Ancient Rome,
medieval Europe and the Renaissance and Reformation.
In Room 22, we're about the learning, or more specifically, learning how to learn. We build good study
habits and accumulate the strategies and skills we will need to learn in high school as well as middle
school. We practice being kind, considerate, and helpful as we practice writing, critical thinking, and
problem-solving.
