Behavioral Expectations

In addition to school's 4R, I expect my students to be RESPONSIBLE and
RESPECTFUL.

RESPONSIBLE: Responsible for your own learning. It means that you are:
1. Punctual--
*You are seated at your desk when class begins.
*You turn in your assignments when they are due (or earlier whenever
possible), because you know that you will receive partial or no credit for
late assignments.
*You actively participate in class activities and discussion.
*If you are unable to attend instruction, you will notify the teacher with a
note from your parents/guardians or another teacher. You know that if you
miss a lesson, it is YOUR responsibility to learn and take notes for the
missed lesson, and make up any missed work and get the new assignment.

2. Prepared
have everything you need when you walk through the door for each class, such
as homework/assignment, notebook, red pen for correcting homework, sharpened
pencils, and other supplies as listed on the first-day letter.

3. Organized
*You keep your papers neatly arranged in a binder with dividers for each
class.
*You clean out your backpack every afternoon/evening when you get home and
you pack everything needed for next day (see previous paragraph) before you
go to bed.
*You do not turn in any assignment until you have made sure that it has a
proper heading and format.
*You keep track of all your assignments and upcoming events in your planner,
and you use this planner to help you remember to get things done on-time.

4. Resourceful
*You ask your teachers or parents for help when you dont understand
something.
*You use your notebook or textbook or the library or the internet to find
information you need.
*You dont give up if your first resource doesnt help you ask again or
find another resource.
*You do not waste any class time. You may work on homework assignment or
additional worksheets when you are finished with all your work.

RESPECTFUL: Respectful for others. It means that you are:
1. Obedient
*You follow all the CMS rules and classroom rules.
*You respond positively and immediately whenever an adult instructs you to
do something.
	**Teachers & Substitute Teachers	**Custodians
	**Para-educators **Bus drivers
	**Counselors **Office staff
	**Cafeteria workers **Adult volunteers

2. Polite
*You use clean language.
*You use words like please, thank you, good morning, and excuse me with
everyone.
*You are helpful and kind to others, both students and adults, whether you
know them or not.
*You ask before you borrow something from someone.
*When you have a conflict with an adult or a student, you settle it
privately and peacefully.

3. Trustworthy
*You tell the truth all the time.
*Adults can depend on you to do the right thing even when theyre not
watching.
*You dont put yourself in situations where you might be tempted to do the
wrong thing.
*You admit it when you make a mistake and accept the consequences without
complaint.

4. Tolerant
*You believe that everyone has a right to his or her own opinion, even if
you dont agree with it.
*You are patient with those who are different from you.
*You stand up for others who are being picked on.
*If you cant say something nice, you dont say anything at all.

Classroom Procedures

The classroom procedures consist of three main parts: Starting Class
(including starting procedures and homework procedures), Instructional, and
Dismissal procedures.

1. STARTING CLASS
*You get permission from the teacher to get into the classroom. Once come
in, you line up your desk and immediately sit down and work quietly.
*You place your backpack on the floor UNDER your desk.
*You copy all assignments from the board into the assignment section of your
planner.
*You clear your desk except for the supplies (notebook, pencil, and red
pen) that you need to do the first two tasks- Bell work and homework
correction.
*You immediately work on Bell Work problems (warm-up problems or warm-up
quizzes). For warm-up problems, there are two forms: worksheets or overhead
problems. For worksheets, finish assigned problems; for overhead problems,
copy down problems into your notebook first and then work in the notebook.
You need to finish the bell work within the allowed time (usually 5
minutes). If you finish it early, you may start correcting your homework.
The completion of bell work is counted toward your participation points.
While you are working on Bell work, your homework will be checked and
stamped.
*If no bell work is given, you take out your homework and start homework
correction immediately.

2. HOMEWORK PROCEDURES (See Handout for homework format)
*you do homework correction only with a red ink pen. It has two parts:
checking answers (in class) and making corrections (at home). Checking
answers: Check your answers first (write down the correct answer next to
your wrong answer) with the keys on the overhead while I walk around
checking your homework and bell work. Making corrections: Correct your
mistakes (show correct steps) next to the incorrect problem or at the end of
assignment.
*We will go over bell work problems and then might also work on a few
difficult homework problems.
*Homework quizzes may be given without a prior notice. Tips to do well on
the homework quiz: Write your homework in a more organized manner (with
clear CMS heading, page and problem numbers), and do homework correction as
instructed in the handout HOMEWORK STANDARDS FOR MATH. Homework quizzes will
be given at least once per quarter.

3. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
*After Starting (see Starting Class Procedures), be an active learner by
paying attention to the lesson for the new material or new skill.
*Take notes. Use Cornell Note format (see the sample on the wall in the
classroom).
*Work on the practice problems. They will help guide you through the new
skill and allow you to be better prepared to do your homework.
*Ask questions if you need help.
*Actively participate group activities.
*Keep papers and assignment records in your binder. Do not throw away any
assignments until after your grade is correctly posted.

4. DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
*Bell ring does not dismiss you. I dismiss you.
*Please remain seated before you are dismissed by the teacher. Whole class
detention might be given if some students break this rule.

Just for Parents

*Please remember that, although your child may look mature, they still need
the guidance and support from you. Please see Q&A section on how you can
help your child.
*Check the teachers' websites regularly for assignments and test dates. I
give daily homework, including on Friday.
*Before you call or send an email to teachers for any concerns, please
remember to check your child's grade (from internet), ask him/her whether
he/she has been missing any assignments, whether he/she has been taking
notes, whether he/she has been seeking help from teachers, and whether
he/she has prepared for the tests/quizzes.
*I am usually good at replying emails, but you might want to send me another
email if you has not heard from me after a few days because some emails
never reach me for some mysterious reasons.
*See Q&A section for more tips.
